April 2020 Hatch-A-Long! All are welcome!

Ooh is it Highland Homestead? I have been eyeing those Isabel Ameraucanas but I don’t have room to work with one than the BBS so I have to stop myself.
Yes that's the one! I do want to breed Ameraucana in the near future and since I only have one I feel like this might be the right time to experiment and see which colors and lines I like best. I'm not sure I want to breed lavender; I've heard it's a little tricky. But they are gorgeous.

I have one blue duck and now I want more 😂 I am excited for my all black ducklings coming up, though. Lil emo ducks 🖤
This duckling has my heart. This one my husband picked out

My blue baby is INSANE 😂. I'm trying to spend lots of time with all of them so they are less skittish but whew! Chickens are easier to tame. They seemed to like shared lap time. 8 ducks is a lot to have in your lap at once lol.

Find any narragansett eggs yet? 🤞

Nope. Will still keep a look out. If nothing pops up by next Saturday, the co-op will have 5 poults. BUT... there will be a line around the building and they’re first come first serve. If I want them, I have to be there an hour early and wait by the door.

So basically like I’m trying to get some toilet paper at Costco. Fricken line around the building!

Still no wiggles from the emus, trying so hard not to write them off mentally.

I haven't either, sigh. The great heritage turkey shortage of 2020 😩. You'd think with such high demand your co-op would order more!

I have my fingers crossed that your emus surprise you and you get a good hatch from the ones that are left. I saw a post from someone on BYC's Facebook looking for emu hatching advice. She has one under a broody hen and one she's going to put in a bator. Big job for the broody! But it would be cool if it works.

That’s quite the job for a broody! Better be a giant chicken.

Looky what I found...

Yes totally! Good idea. And yeah the Lavenders are beautiful but BBS was the easiest to wrap my head around and I happen to love the way all 3 colors look, so it works out. I think my challenge will be improving and not degrading the blue color. I want to try to keep it dark with nice lacing definition instead of washed out, so I’m growing out as many birds as I can this year to hopefully be set for next year.
