April 2021 Hatch - A - Long

Pics
I just came across this thread to join in.

I have 2 broodies. Given both 5 eggs last of bantam RIR on Thursday evening: April 8. Having Dutch /Tournaisis bantams I experienced only 20 days to hatch. Wonder if that is normal for bantam RIR too?

By the end of the month I expect to have at least a few chicks.

The eggs wrapped in toilet paper against any bumping on the way home.

Welcome! 😊

Do you know what breed you got from this store egg? Where you so lucky to have a pullet?
Not 100% sure, but came to the conclusion that she is half red sex link and half leghorn. She hatched out of a medium brown egg, but lays tinted/cream colored ones herself. Has white earlobes like a leghorn.
Yes, I was lucky to get a pullet and she has been laying an egg a day since 18 weeks of age. 😊

I have 2 broodies as well. I always allow broodies to hatch eggs. I find it less stressful for the chickens to hatch than using my incubator.

2 hatched overnight, of course they are both roo's. the joys of auto sexing, know the disappointment immediately LOL. in this case, I have them sold as someone needs to replace the loss of their CL rooster. I egg left to hatch from this small batch. I have another batch hatching in 9 days, so far all of them are going strong.

I'm setting another 48 eggs tomorrow, which means a May 2nd hatch date, so might as well start May's thread now because I have another 72 Aloha eggs to set in another weeks time. These will be the last eggs I can get from non NPIP tested flocks as the state vet tells me as of April 30th I will be NPIP and must close my farm to anything that does not come from NPIP flocks. That is also the day AZ will recognize me as a small hatchery. the process has been a lot of electronic paperwork :) but in the end it is worth it.
