April 2021 Hatch - A - Long

Pics
After a couple of false starts with the broody hen, we received our shipped eggs on Wednesday and set them in the incubator last night. 14 silver laced barnevelder eggs. And of course today I'm picking up my chick order from the local hardware store (2 blue copper marans and 2 salmon favorelles) and there are those 7 olive eggers I moved from the brooder to a dog crate in the shop yesterday at three weeks. I don't have a chicken problem do I?

drum roll, tomorrow is lockdown! 💃‍‍💃‍‍ Seems like I have been waiting forever, for them to get this far. In the meantime I have been selling off some roosters and hens, so I will NEED more chickens now. Makes me feel better about my chicken math, and this ain't my last hatch this year either, cause what would be the fun in that? When I sell or butcher the last rooster I don't want, then we're ready to make lots an lots of chicklets! Yippie!!

At 7 am I got up, and there were just 2 pips on the eggs. Now it is almost 10 am and they are a bit further... The green egg was a-rockin'.

Not in turners, just resting in cups.

I just sold 10 hens, which I've been putting off since last August....felt a little sad, so I immediately came home and plopped 20 eggs in the incubator. I don't know what's wrong with me, lol. Have only hatched quail eggs before, but seems like the same concept. If they hatch, they'll just be barnyard mixes, but I'm curious what they'll look like. Also have 8 chicks coming in the mail next week...I must be nuts!

Just realized that the eggs in the incubator are due to hatch on my 3-year-old's birthday, so that will be fun.

Looking forward to following everyone else's hatches!

The broody plague is here again. Mrs tweedy the brown one has been sitting longer than we thought. I went to go mark eggs today and there are chicks pecking inside, guess we will have chicks very soon.

Peeper the gray one is a chick I hatched last year from my flock. She is sitting on 4, but once Tweedys eggs hatch, I will pull the other ones that aren’t ready (weeks behind) and put them under Peeper.

Well, I hear little chirps from the incubator that is in lockdown. so soon I should have some CCL chicks, which is good because I have 48 eggs to go into it on Sunday. Though...if I hand turn I can get around 90 in there...hmmmmm
90 sure is a lot to hand turn. By the time you finished, it would be time to turn them again!☺️
