April 2021 Hatch - A - Long

Experimenting at it's finest lol

here here! That's what this is all about for me. haha. i'm trying to run this a temptorary schedule so far, because I don't want to get a year into this and then decide to pull the plug. but I don't think that will happen based on the first month or two so far. however I am depending on my wife and kiddo's for much of the chicken tender-ing. :D

Ha Ha! The little buggers do not consult me when they go broody! Does not always correspond to when I have eggs. All 3 went broody after I started incubating last month. Now they have stopped. I need to coordinate better with them next time around!🤣
Don’t worry, you will definitely get broodiness from silkies!🥰
Broodieness! I had only one laying for a while due to a long molt and two wanna-be mammas, but I told them they can't hatch until August. Actually, they will raise a lot of next years breeding stock!

So the shipped eggs are delayed again!😟
Were suppose to be here this morning, but will likely be here tomorrow.
On another note, I just tossed 12 out of 13 paint I have on the Easter HAL.
Crossing my fingers for the one that is left.
On a positive note, TWO of my silkie girls are laying now, one splash, one partridge, so adding their eggs to the incubator. The whole point of these shipped eggs though was to get some new bloodlines and colors that I do not have.
Out of 35 shipped silkie eggs from February and March, only one hatched and was viable. I sent the eggshell in for genetic testing. It is a boy of course. He is a beautiful blue, so I thought I would keep him but now I can see he has a single comb!😩
Maybe I am not supposed to be raising silkies...
