April 2022 hatch-a-long (non-Easter, and Easter welcome)

OMGeeze they are adorable! I luv it when u can just see their personality oozing out of their lil faces!!! Such cuties!
Ok educate me...bantam EEs...how big will they get? About like a bantam silkie?!
Yes! Obviously it depends on what they’re mixed with, but they will be about the size of a bantam Silkie or Cochin 😍 So bigger than a d’Uccle, but smaller than a small standard bird! I’m not sure what these are a mix of but they’re freaking adorable and sweet and tiny! This was likely one of the parents 😁

Well, my 04.24 and 04.30 BBS+Cuckoo Silkie hatches are going to be getting a lot more interesting. And delayed...

So my incubator is out in my unheated chicken coop, and because of the weather being so up-and-down I have it swaddled in the finest of quilted-saddle-blanket tea-cozies to insulate and help it maintain heat. It's been working fabulously, I've not heard the dreaded "low temperature scream" any time I've checked in with the cameras at night. Unfortunately, this also means I can't see the control panel, and it can't scream if the power is out...

I had two separate power outages within a five day span, one for up to 24 hours, and the other for up to 48.

Somehow, all 19 are still developing. Lots of healthy movement when I candle, everything progressing like normal. according to my guestimate, my hatch dates have moved from 04.24 to 04.26 and 04.30 to 05.02.

12 made it to lockdown and 11 hatched.

I have another batch pipping and 30 made it to lockdown in that batch
Awesome!

Mine are on day 21 now. I have a few with external pips (one is on the wrong end). I'm hearing lots of chirping. I dropped the lid of my incubator on one when trying to add a little cup of water and it didn't make it, I feel terrible! 11 remain, we'll see how it goes.
