APRIL 26TH, TSC MILFORD NH CHICKEN SWAP:

Gypsy, sorry to hear about your rogue jerk buck! There are some breeds you just expect it from and others it really catches you by surprise! I hope you heal up fast!

I guess it's a good thing nobody bit on those mixed hatching eggs because our eating egg demand just went way up and we may have trouble keeping up now until the Wyandotte pullets start laying in late summer.

By the by though I will still have a couple of green EE/Wyandotte cross hatching eggs if someone wants them since our eating customers don't want the smaller sized EE eggs. Our EE hen is a LF but her eggs are only medium sized compared to the large and jumbos that we get from our other layers. I'm not sure if her being an EE will make her babies EEs as well. Does anyone know?

Ok, this is my understanding of this, I could be way off.
Aurocauna, is a breed, layes colored eggs, are rumpless (bunny tailed) and hard to breed.
Americauna, is a breed, layes colored eggs, is more common, and can be all sorts of colors.
EE, is a cross. They are Americauna or Aurocauna crossed with something els, but still lay a colored egg.
There is a thread or two about it on this board. Hopefully that helps, and I remembered it right.

The blue/green egg gene is dominant so the offspring should lay green

The
first 3 will be 6 weeks tomorrow. Little chica is 4 weeks but his/her comb is already pink. I'm holding out hope for chick 3, but she's looking awfully pink today. ARGH

I'll know for sure in a couple more weeks, but figure I may as well start planning. Even if #3 is a pullet, that leaves me with just two and I'd need at least 2 more.

ETA: There are more pics on page 3. Here's a group shot of the 3 older ones, if anyone doesn't feel like going over there. I would say that #3's comb is a tad more bubblegum pink IRL than shows here.

Left to right, cockeral, cockeral, (fleeing sex-link), ????

Is anyone bringing baby ducks to this swap? I had a call looking for baby ducks, not overly particular to which breed, they are thinking pekin and muscovie.
I am not sure mine will be hatched in time for this swap.
