hi gypsie, that is a partridge silkie. from what I can see, alot of chicks start like that. I have had alot of mixed chicks that look similar. they always turn out to be some type of laced chick. always something pretty. means you have to wait and see.

OH like thats a fair answer !

I have some really prety ones in this batch, just not a freakin cue as to what they are.

we put our first 2 chickens in a cage like people keep guinea pigs in. It was about 3 ft long by maybe 18 inches wide and 20 inches high. We don't have a garage, so i kept the cage in my office for the past two months.
When we got two more, i put them in a large plastic tub with wire over the top. The tub was about the size of the cage we had.
The kids would get the chickens out and let them roan around on the floor for a bit, then put them back. (they quickly learned to wipe up chicken poop too---lol).
I built us a nice 8x10 chicken coop---adapted a basic shed plan, added windows and a chicken door, and so on. I just need to add the outdoor run, but i already moved the 4 adult chickens into it this past Sunday.
I also have a bunch of baby chicks in the house---some in a brooder made from a large cardboard box, and some in a brooder made from a large plastic tub. I plan to have at least 20 chickens....

yep I use the 36 inch long ferret cages too , they are so much easier to clean up.
just pop the top( after you put all babys in the tote or its a mad chicken scramble) take it outside dump it, sanitize fll with shavings add cover and chicks and your good to go for another day.

We are still hatching here at day 21.
Thought I would share photos of a few of the chicks that hatched yesterday. Sorry they came out huge and the poor little Mille Fleur chick blends in with the carpet, lol. None of them wanted to stand up on it.
