APRIL 26TH, TSC MILFORD NH CHICKEN SWAP:

I should have some Mille Fluer d'Uccle chicks for this one, a few EE's and a few blk Giant/Blk Langshan chicks as well.
My white d'uccles aren't developing and I don't think I will have many white Rosecombs so I will keep what hatches of those.

It looks like I will have maybe 3 BLR Wyandotte cockerels to sell at the swap. They are fully feathered and spending their first full night out in the garage without a lamp tonight. They will be 9 weeks old by swap day. I *might* also have some silver penciled, hen feathered, cockerels but I have to take a closer look at the SP crew to see if there are any cockerels in the group. I'll be looking at all the chicks closely for sexing tomorrow. Usually I'm just too busy playing with them to pay attention to whether they are pullets or cockerels :lol If I find any cockerels in the other colors they will be for sale as well. I will update with exactly what I'll have tomorrow night.

Also, just out of not wanting to waste them, I will be selling some Royal Palm tail feathers for 10 cents each. My Bruiser and I got in a conflict yesterday and he tried to escape. I spent an hour chasing him and finally got as close as I ever was going to, just close enough to grab a hold of his tail. I hated having to catch him that way but he would not let me any closer. As soon as I reached for him I had just enough time to grab his tail as he launched himself into the air. I was able to pin him to the ground and pick him up pretty quickly but his initial try at flight caused him to lose 10 or so of his shorter tail feathers. I don't know if anyone has a use for them, a craft project perhaps, but they are white feathers with a shiny black band towards the top. In case anyone is wondering Bruiser is fine, hurt his pride but but I looked him over closely once I had him caught all the way and he wasn't bloody or tender in his posterior region from whence the feathers came. I did learn a valuable lesson though. Do not leave coop door open with new turkey inside, even for just a little while.

So that's that. I'll update as soon as I know better what I have available. All of our pullets are sold so it will just be a handful of cockerels.

OK, the final verdict is 2 BLR Wyandotte cockerels and 1 silver spangled hamburg cockerel. I'm looking to get $8 each, they are fully feathered and ready to go right outside. Let me know if you would like one held, otherwise I will see you all at the swap!

I couldn't find a thread for May chicken swaps in NH---i'm guessing they aren't started yet?

Anyway, I just found out today that i will be able to get the Salmon Faverolles in May that i wasn't able to get with my April order of chicks. Of course it means that I'm paying for shipping a second order, since i couldn't get everything in 1 order. So far, i have no luck finding SF locally.

I was wondering about ordering some extra, and then selling the extra chicks at a swap (probably the one in Milford). But since i'm still new to this, i'm uncertain if it's a good idea or not? I can increase my order with other varieties besides SF, if something else is more likely to sell.

I just don't want to get stuck with a lot of extra chicks that i don't have room for.

I barely got my chicken coop secure for my adult birds (still need to make the outside run), and i have 2 brooder boxes going now (two ages of chicks), plus i'll have a 3rd box for the ones i get in May!

Opinions please from you more experienced people? Thanks!!

INCREASE the order and bring the unwanted ones to the JUNE 14th Chickenstock at the AGway in Keene!! YOU can join in the fun of selling and swapping...you never know you might find something you'd LIKE to swap them for...or just sell them.

Here is the link for the Keene, NH swap... https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=133409&p=13

Bantam or large fowl? Might or might not be able to help out with that problem

This is my Daughters main breed, they are bantam, she has more of these guys than anything else. If you are in no hurry she would have some adults closer to fall, they are from really great stock. She would have hatching eggs to spare too. Our bator is over full. But we wouldn't be able to make it

We've been wanting to make it to the swaps but we have two autos that are not too trustworthy right now to go that far.
