I know! I am shocked and so excited!

She always sends lots.

I think they are probably from her cuckoos who lay pretty dark eggs. I've hatched some of hers and they hatch out really well. My FBCMs on the other hand are a little tough. But' you'll love the chicks from her eggs. I had lots hatch, but they were in the brooder I had attacked by a cat last month.

Anyone for cat soup?

FYI - lotsapaints is NOT a she!!

Idk, I got a message saying 'the husband' had gathered the turkey eggs for my April swap...

That stinks. Sorry. I try to send out my eggs asap after names are sent. I just got NPIP tested and not sure if I can participate anymore. They are so fun, it's a real bummer.

NPIP = National Poultry Improvement Plan - I have a Ag & Mkts technician come to my home and blood test up to 30 of my flock for Pullorum disease, discovered in 1899, is a
worldwide disease of chickens. The main reservoirs of infection are the egg-producing organs of the infected hen. Chicks from diseased hens are infected at conception inside the egg.

A link to a brochure http://www.aphis.usda.gov/publications/animal_health/content/printable_version/npip-helping_you.pdf

If
you show at fairs or meets then typically your individual birds need to be tested prior to going. So, I now have a "closed" flock. No new birds or eggs from anyone that is not also NPIP approved. Really limits where I can get hatching eggs but when I go to shows my birds are already done.

I have been so busy on the quail thread or with my own birds and incubators I didn't even bother to chat here!!!! I am resending eggs to one person because the post office hates me lately and I messed up with postage (sorry Tammy!!!) But I hatched out two guinea keets from March but they hatched in April (28 days LOL) and I am expecting geese eggies to hatch (but the air sacs ruptured on many (they were packed awesome so post office is kicking my butt I swear!!!!)

But I didn't want people to think I am neglecting others so I am here and hopefully more of me will be here! LOL

Oh! suggestions folks, and don't think I am crazy (please don't!!!) I hatched out a shipped egg and it has a limp for a leg! Now I know many factors can come to play and the chick is normal otherwise (not using it as a breeder though) but I am certain USPS is starting to xray eggs again! This can explain many poor hatches as well (clears, etc). I have been having a new protocol for packing, less labeling, and really over packing the eggs, including aluminum foil wrapping...this is new protocol for me and I will be doing this each time just to see what people think! Sorry me blubbering....

I second the fact that the USPS is X-Raying eggs. I sent 15 button quail eggs to someone from my birds (9 breeding pairs) and not one egg even started to develop. I have started writing 'Do Not X-Ray' on the boxes but I don't know if that will do any good.

Does the foil actually help? I wouldn't think so since you get a lead blanket when you get an X-Ray at the hospital.
