I thought the requirement was a minimum of 2 dozen per PICK UP. That won't just be once a week, will it? I think the number of pick up's in your zone would depend on how many BYCers in your area are participating and how many eggs the local restaurants require to meet their customers demands. In some areas, it will mean A LOT of eggs. I'm thinking I may not be able to meet the minimum.

I'm gonna have to rethink my chicken math! Time to build that new huge coop and get more hens!

I've got a LOT of LF hens that would love to participate. I'm just concerned about the whole legal aspect of this? It took me a really long time to find a food bank to take my extra eggs because of the whole being "perishable" thing. Also- do we have to provide the cartons? Sorry if somebody asked that.

Anyway- I would say about we have 30 consistant-laying LF that I don't use for hatching eggs, 6 dozen extra a week at least. I rotate free-ranging every other day, but they have big coops and get lots of healthy treats.

Also- we're in Mid/SE TN by several other BYCers.

Wow this is awesome! I already have customers for the layers i have but i have 18 pullets soon to lay, 12 pullets in the brooder 40 eggs in the bator, and an order of 29 peeps coming in may.
My layers are
2 cuckoo marans - betty & wilma
2 rsl ( not sure theyre still laying) - henny & dixie
1 speckled sussex - lauren
1 silver laced wyanadote- crystal
1 black star- dusk
1 barred rock- amethyst

Everyone has a name. I am only getting about 2 dz/wk at the moment, but obviously that will shortly increase.
I also have ducks, maybe if the chickens go well theyll expand to include those? Theyre good for cakes and waffles.. Nudge, nudge.

Thanks byc!!

I would love to participate.
I am getting about 4-5 dozen a week with more to come.
All my chickens free range on 8 1/2 acres. And yes they all have names.......BUT prefer to be called "henny henny".

Q about the washing i only wash my dirty eggs, and its only right before they go out the door. Do they want us to wash all and use an egg wash? Or what? I

There will be a protocol for this, no doubt with ordinary household products or else just water. All the details have not been worked out yet.
