Hi! I am a brand new BYC'er. I had been thinking of signing up for along time, but just had not gotten around to it... One of my friends who is on BYC all the time called me bright and early today about this new egg selling program, so I knew I HAD to join in....

Until about one hour ago, I had 5 chickens. When I heard about this new BYC program, it sounded so GREAT, I decided to increase my flock. My neighbor had several hens who are just about ready to start laying. He has been trying to sell them, becauuse he has all the eggs and chicken he needs. I just bought 20 new hens from him just 15 minutes ago because the new BYC program will make it profitable.

Now, it was hard to come up with the cash so quickly ( the hens were $10.00 each, so I have a $200 investment right now), but i figured i would soon recoup that with the BYC egg program. I will have to skimp on groceries for my 5 kids for the next month or so--being a single mom is NOT easY, but I can consider the new hens an investment in my kid's future.

So, I can not wait for more details on how i can get started in this program!

Thanks so much for making it available!
Jess

I'd love to participate. I have nine layers, but three are still laying little pullet eggs. I swear I get 9 eggs a day almost every day now. They probably each only miss one day a week, so we'll say an average of 8 a day - 56 a week. I haven't had trouble giving away or selling (or eating) them, but it would be nice to have a guarnteed time every two weeks that someone will come get the overflow!

Oh, they currently have slightly less than 4sq of room, but they free range daily and there has been no feather picking or other issues. I am in the middle of building a large 16x20 aviary for them, which should be done in a month or so.
And their names are: Sunshine, Ebony, Madelide, Sam, Sky, Ginger, Lacy, Matilda, and Jade.

I would love to be included as well. I currently have 11 welsummer hens we get between 50 and 60 eggs a week. We have names for them all but don't ask me who is who when they are moving around... they kind of all look the same

I currently have one Roo Brewster who has a very bad attitude towards me but is lovely to his ladies.
I have 30 eggs in the incubator we are crossing our fingers we get a good hatch.
And we are building a bigger and better coop so we can fit everyone once they grow big and strong

Right now we have people fighting over who gets our eggs but with the possibility of adding at least another dozen hens and another roo to the mix we may have a few extra dozen we would like to use for this program once it is established

so please count me in

We have 8 Plymouth Barred Rocks that are 7 months and a week old. All are laying and we get approximately 3 to 4 dozen a week. Their names are: Stardust; Moonbeam; Angel; Lily; Oreo; Poppy; Sandy; & Letty. We named them when they were chics and easier to tell apart, lol. Now that they are older, it's a gamble.

We have a 4'x8' coop and a 8'x12' run, plus they are let out several times each week to free range in our backyard.

We are so excited about this! Thank you BYC for having this available for small chicken holders like us!

It's such a great program!

What if some hens freerange part of the time and part of the time they are in the run? Mine get to freerange just about every day on 3+ acres but not all day because if dh or I leave to go to work or errands or whatever we lock them back into the run for thier own safety (lots of hawks, eagles etc here).
So which counts for the 4 sq feet per hen the run or the yard lol? I might be interested depending....

I have well over 50 hens all have names and sometimes even nicknames LOL. I get blue, olive eggs, and various brown egglayers including several different varieties of Marans so get shades of brown eggs from light to very dark chocolate.
