If you really want to do your part to make sure these forums stay a part of BYC, make sure to visit them (via the links in the first post on this thread) and don't just view them, make sure to post at least once or twice in each so that they stay active.

X2!!

When I was a kid, many many years ago, we had a neighbor that had a pet chimpanzee. I remember thinking that was so cool. It lived in the house and even used the toilet.

Yeah, new forums are always a bonus. It's fun to learn about new possibilities.

I never thought I would ever have an emu, but I hatched two. Heck, what should I try next?

Ostriches.

Wow! How cool :) I have a pet hedgehog- I'm not sure if that's exotic or not, but I'm willing to answer questions.

That's awesome!!

This is awesome! I'm trying to talk DH into letting me get a pair of aurochs - I think I can lease some of the field behind us to put them.

While I think it's a neat idea to to talk about raising jaguars, I think it would be a lot more practical to have sections for rabbits/ goats/ horses etc as there are a heckofa lot more people that want to talk about that kind of thing here... and yeah yeah don't say go to backyardherds, because I'll post an identical post on each website and even though there's no "section" here for them I get a TON more responses, I only ever get one or two over there... there's just WAY more people HERE. Just an idea, I'm sure you guys have heard it before...

I am certified in wild life rehabilitation from IWRC - International Wildlife Rehabilitation Council. It is ABSOLUTELY not a good idea to keep any wild bird or animal as a pet. These are not domesticated, and no matter how kind and loving you are to them they are wild. When they become sexually mature they will want to do what they do. Often they become unmanageable, showing signs of aggression, and become a liability. Wild birds, owls, hawks, ravens, crows etc. all require special permits form US Fish and Wildlife, and possibly from your local state to keep. There are very specific requirements as to what size enclosure they require. The rescue center where I work often receives birds that people have found and tried to keep. We get them when the bird or animal has become sick and almost dead from lack of proper food. These poor birds and animal have become either imprinted or habituated to living in conditions that do not allow them to be returned to the wild. They are not afraid of humans, do not know how to find food, don't know what food looks like in the wild. It is not a good outcome for any of them. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE WILDLIFE AS PETS! www.shastawildliferescue.com
