APRIL Hatch a long ......Anyone?

Well... All of them, dead. Looked back in my log to see what happened day 14, looks like I forgot to turn them so they were in one position for about 10 hours. One WAS moving day 17, not anymore. Not sure what happened. Just going to stick with broodies from now on.

So sorry about your loss

My second hatch went like that except mine were moving and rolling then nothing.. Only had three of about 19 hatch and two of those I assisted died within 24 hours... Its hard to pick up and try again, my third hatch went better, 10 out of 25 eggs hatched, still hard.. Now I have eggs under broody, expected to see a pip today and nothing.. got eggs in the bator that are on day 7.. Goose eggs 5/6 have great veining, candled a few turkeys and can see the first bits of veins... But I am along way from a hatch as I well know.. I am treating this hatch how I did my very first, following the directions to the letter.. My first hatch I got 20/23

Sorry about your losses .Gen. Always disappointing. I feltlike that also the other day but you wiill get some of whats left to hatch i bet

Had 2 good chicks and 4 assist...2 have bad feet one of those seemingly otherwise healthy died during the night.. the silky 2 bad feet seem weak still hanging in there. The pip for over 24 hours one looks good but isnt walking
Anyway the lav EE is small but fiesty[

Lockkdown now for some EE and LOs..due Monday.

Also testing out setting 3 week old eggs
Set today....you never know!
Will hatch 26 th if theydo.

No they're definitely all dead, but despite my epic fail, I'm somewhat relieved. Now I can have my life back lol
Looks like some died on day 10 due to the power outage & some died day 14, because I forgot to turn them. I thought they would be a little more resilient but I guess not. Maybe there's something wrong with my flock, maybe not. Hubby offered to take me out to get some chicks. Idk. Maybe. If I can find ones that won't die after 2 years from internal laying because of poor breeding choices, that would be ideal.

Eta: good luck with your hatch Rox! This is a great thread, lots of variety here. I love spring time :) not going to let this fail ruin my day/week... I should probably just get some broodies now

Lol, no worries! Hate when that happens :)
Yeah bleached it out, & have it air drying right now. I think what's upsetting is I lost a lot of sleep from monitoring the humidity, & turned down opportunities to go places. I don't have the best incubator, & that's my punishment for wanting more chicks I guess. Think I'm just gonna get broody chicks & let them do all the work. :p

Yeah my first hatch was great! 18/20! I'm not dealing with incubator stuff for awhile unless I get the incubator I want, which is programmable & automatic. I can just set em & forget em. :)

I am so glad I read this thread today, I thought I was nuts, up 3 times last night checking the temperature and humidity. My first goal of using an incubator.
1 external pip and the other four are wobbling! Day 20!

My bantam cochin eggs arrived at the PO yesterday, the postal worker didn't even come to my door with the package, just left a note slip in my mailbox! How lazy!
Every single egg was scrambled! Most expensive eggs I've bought and not one will grow anything.

Guess I better start looking for some LF cochin eggs!

Question folks?
My broody was having a feed and i noticed a huge lump of poop stuck to her bum i snipped it off with the scissors because it was so stuck and dried that washing would have taken to long, she was squealing while i did it. I noticed the nest has some poop in it and her end is pretty dirty.

I have never had this problem with broodys before, (shes a frizzle pekin) what should i do just leave as is or clean nest and broodys bum (sounds fun :( )

Thanks in advance :)

Oh, I know what you mean, it's the same with mine. With my homemade incubator, I was up every 2 hours putting water through the holes to wet dish towels I had in it. Pain in the butt! Brinsea has one with a programmable temp & humidity pump & automatic egg turner. The one I would like would be about $500. In my dreams lol!
Hubby took me out to get some chicks. I got a couple leghorns & some silkies. I'll definitely won't need an incubator if I can get a few hens out of this batch

You know her best, will she tolerate you cleaning the nest? My broody isn't a very good mother (blue copper marans) but she tolerates me around her & will continue brooding despite my frequent interruptions lol. I know if you disturb them too much they will give up the nest. Knowing my broody, I would clean up the mess & keep a close eye on her.
