well i'm in lockdown now and its been so weird. i added the water (hot ) to the trays below the eggs. and pulled out the thing i was turning the eggs on. put the nonslip mat for the to be hatching chicks in, since i forgot to put it in at the beginning of incubation. closed everything up tight., and had the temp not want to come back up, waited 5 hours for it to stablize, would only come up to 97.1, not good! so did a quick small adjustment to temp got it to stablize at 100.3 (ok). then this morning noticed my humidity was only 55, i usually run for hatching at about 65,so added more water though a vent hole and now my temps 101

i just dont know whats going on with my incubator! its homemade but have never had it do this before it has been holding steady at 100.1 for the entire hatch till lockdown and its just flaking out now. i only had 2 eggs out of 11 make it to lockdown and now i dont know if these will hatch ok with the funny temps that have been happening the last 2 days.

hoping for some activity in the next few days and less trouble from my incubator, all the pics of the hatchlings are so cute! congrats to all the hatches so far and good luck to all who are still waiting.

I'm have similar problems with my homemade hatcher it was just fine needed to bump up the humidity and the temp wouldn't come back up 97 isn't good either so I'm working on getting it to be stable so I can move the eggs over for lockdown I figure 1 day will not hurt but I wanted to see them and the hatcher has a full window..it must be the weather I don't want them to roast watch the weather get hot and I'll be a wreck

What a wonderful surprise each chick must be. Congrats! Lovely picture of the whole family.

Thanks! now I have seen as many as 9 at once. I wish she would just get up and show us all of them! But It is fun to go out and check every so often. My wife & stepson are helping me keep a look out. I'm sure that by tomorrow she'll come off the nest & we'll know for sure how many there are.
Then the whole thing starts again! The next hen is due on Tuesday!

Congrats to everyone!! There are some really cute pictures.

I am also using a homemade incubator and I had to take the turner I was using out (was also homemade) because a piece on it kept breaking so i had to make another one.. I was using an egg carton that I could just raise each side up and I changed it to an egg carton that I cut the bottoms out so I could just lean the eggs to each side by sliding it.. Evidently the carton i waqs using the first time was soaking up most of the heat and humidity because when i changed it, they both went haywire... Even with almost no water in the tray, the humidity was steady at 50% (been keeping it around 38%-40%)... Hope you figure out how to fix the problem..

I just moved the two remaining eggs due to hatch on the 8th to the hatcher. candled them as i did and only have hope for 1. went ahead and candled the 7 that are in day 12 also. only one shows veins. i went ahead and kept them all in and will check them again on day 18 but at this time it looks like I may get 2 chicks out of 28 eggs.

Bummer.....

good luck...
Mine are due to hatch on April 8th, but with the temps being low throughout incubation and a 7 hour power outage, I figure they will all be late!

Well, I made it to lockdown yesterday with 6 out of 8 eggs. Pretty cool for my first attempt and in a homemade incubator. My temps have been running a little high sometimes, so I hope they do ok. Seems to be stable at 100 degrees now.
When I last candled them I could see the little chicks moving around inside. It was so exciting!

I have an Easter Egger roo.
The two I had to toss were from my Easter Egger hen...they never developed.
..3 of the eggs are from White Leghorn Hens and 3 RIR..can't wait to see what the chicks look like if they hatch!
