April Hatch Thread--Come Join Us!

I have 29 eggs going into lockdown tomorrow. 9 of those eggs will only be at day 15 but I plan on locking them all down together. Is there anything I should do to increase those 9's odds?

You could still turn those eggs. It's only when you get your first pip that you really need to increase you humidity. That's what we do in a dry hatch.
Just an idea. Good luck.

#1 is out! I'll get some pictures before I go to work. #2 has went from one small pip to several large cracks so I figure I should have another in a couple hours!

5 DAYS TILL LOCKDOWN!!! WooHoo!!!!!

Right there with you - can't wait!

3 of the 13 have me worried though - I can't see movement in them and there is a bit more light passing through them than the others. One BIG chick looks like he's about to pop in there. I think I might actually stop turning/lock down on the morning of Day 17. I have no idea how the one guy is going to not pop his shell early and don't want him doing it while I'm away at work and can't up the humidity for him. Compared to the other eggs this one looks like he's days more developed somehow. When I go to do lock down I'm going to mark this egg and see if I'm right who hatches first.

Already picked out a name for the first to hatch - that chick will be Dr Peeper.

I know you can do it BIG guy egg! Fail to hatch first and I"ll just call you Chunky!

...I'm already talking to the eggs now, is that a bad sign?

I've got 6 Silver Appleyard duck eggs due to hatch on Sunday. It's our first time incubating. I candled them last night and they all looked good to me. A couple look like they might be getting close (or maybe have? I'm not sure) to pipping internally.
I'm most worried about keeping the humidity right... it's been a challenge ever since we set them.
It's going to be an exciting weekend!

We just put 72 quail, 4 narragonsett turkey, 16 mixed chicken last Sunday. Got up at 4:30 this morning to candle some. Turkeys are iffy but the rest look great. This I'd very addicting. Already saving eggs for next try. Lol.

I would go stir crazy!  I am seriously addicted though.  I have two LG forced air, one has a turner and the other is suppose to be my hatcher even though it catches the overfill from the Brinsea and the LG with the turner.  The Brinsea is the Octagon 20 ECO.  I love that thing, it does such a good job and it has the turning cradle on it now too.

Yea I figured it would curb my egg hatching if I had to do it in super slow tiny batches.
It's a preventive thing reallyzz

The less time between them the better, but your later eggs might not do as well since they won't have the full resting period. It's all up to you and how comfortable you are with your options.I

I feel ready to explode.... it is 5 and 6 days since they were laid and I will set them tonight ...... the next set should be in tomarrow morning and I will wait 12 hours and set them tomarrow night..... I am PRAYING for no detached air cells!!!!!!! they are citron hamburgs so the eggs will be slightly smaller so they may hatch earlier anyways ..... and Im not planning on turning the turner on till day 4-5 if I do have detached air cells!!!

On another note... I had a chick hatch with a swollen head neck and it is VERY lethargic... it piped yeasterday... still nothing today, and I did not head peeps so I opened it a little and no blood vessiles so I opened it some more and the chick was breathing, I left it in the bator over night and this morning still noting just lying there half in half out of the egg... with a swollen head and neck... I put the shell and chick in a coffee cup and in the brooder to see if drying it out will help.................any other advice..............WHAT IS THIS??????
