I have done LOTS of research, most people say to turn 3x day. I've also read that day 1-4 is the most important to turn....who knows. I've been turning my eggs and all has worked for me so far. I think it depends on the hatcher and what works best for you...unfortunately people learn that from trial and error.

I'm in! I have a dozen duck eggs due to arrive the 1st week of April - Khaki Campbells & Silver Appleyards from Celtic Oaks Farms. I am so very excited!!!

I also just started storing some of my Rouen's eggs, in case there are shipping problems. The drake is a Khaki Campbell, so they'll be KC/Rouen crosses, if I need to hatch any of them. My flock was ravaged by stray dogs (at night, in their coop) a couple of months back, and I lost some of my best ducks and had to rehabilitate the survivors. It will be nice to rebuild the flock.

The incubator is out and ready--we put it through a 2-day test run to make sure everything is operational and ready. We'll fire it up on March 31st again to dial it in for the incubation. We are planning to hatch the eggs at my daughter's preschool, like we did last year. The teachers do a whole unit around ducks and eggs. It is pretty neat.

This was my baby! Pablo was a crested Khaki Campbell! he was a house duck, but he liked to go visit his chicken friends.
We lost him 2 years ago.I always thought he was so beautiful! KC just don't look right to me now without the poof head! I have never been able to find another Crested.

I did Turn them last night. Now your making me think about that.
My first inclination was that they needed to "settle" after the shipping, so I might let it go today.

I'm getting Khaki's from her the first week in April too!!! I only live a few hours from her and she said she would hatch my eggs for me and then I can just go pick the little guys up. I am also getting some SFH eggs from her at the same time.

Since I started doing it the way they say in the article my development rate on shipped eggs has gone way up. Before I would only get 3 or 4 out of a dozen to start developing when I let them sit for 24 hours and then immediately started turning in the bator. Now that I let them sit for 7 days I get almost all of them to start. I set 12 Dark Brahma eggs last Thursday. I just candled them before I started turning and all 12 have development. I know that some of them are going to quit because of really bad aircells but at least I can tell the person I bought them from that all the eggs were fertile.

Thanks for sharing the article! Interesting reading. What kind of hatch rate are you getting from the eggs with damaged cells?
