Started my first incubation last night.

I put in 12 eggs from my EE's, a few each from an Ancona mix, a Cochin mix, a Production Red type, and what I think are 2 Wyandotte mix hens.  42 eggs in all.  My roster is a nice looking guy who I think is half Buff Orp.  All of my chickens are mixes that I got from a small local farm so I'll end up with a bunch of barnyard mix chicks.  Their ETA is the evening of Friday, April 19th.

I'm using a Hova Bator 1588.  It seems to be holding the temp between 99.6 and 100.1F, and the humidity is staying 50-54%.  So everything is looking good so far.  I really hope that I have a decent hatch rate.

I haven't decided when to candle but I think I'll wait a week.

Anyone else use a Hova Bator 1588?  How often have you had to refill the water?  Any other advice about these machines?

I'm thinking that I'll have more questions as I go through this process so thanks in advance, haha.

Wow my two pekins r due on the 15th, only two eggs though keep us updated on yours :)

Some pictures of my barnyard mix flock. Each of these seven hens have some eggs in the incubator. The breeds are just my best guess based on some of the breeds that were running around the farm I got them from.

SFH, what are they southern fried hens? Lol honestly i dont know all of the abbreviations yet. Happy for you hope it goes well.

Uhg...about to start day 20 here in a few minutes...I know I still have plenty of time but the wait is killing me! All air cells are still in tact. No rolling or rocking...def. no peeping....I keep talking to them, telling them it's time to come play! It's looking more and more like a April Fools hatch...

Day 20 is the worst because u keep looking but nothing is likely to happen, good luck let us know how it goes, nd watch a movie maybe ;-)

Day 21 starts in 1 hour. Air sacs are big and beautiful, chicks are alive and moving. No internal pips, no rocking and rolling, no chirping. Trying to be patient, it's hard. I was hoping for at least an Easter pip. Looks like I'll have April chicks after all...really hoping for some tomorrow, April Fools Chicks!!
