These were the eggs a few weeks ago!

This is today... Baby #7 poking a beak through to say hello! Egg #8 has no cracks yet.

And this is one of the other 6 who are a couple of days old! O;-)

*edit* My son also just pointed out to me that it also has 5 toes... Also just like Daddy! (my rooster is a Silkie
O:p )

Hip Hip Hooray! My very first incubated chick just hatched! Itt took about 17 hours after noticing a slight pipping crack this morning. Nothing much happened after that except for occasional chirping. Most of the hatching itself only took about an hour. She is fast asleep now.

I hope to wake up to more good news in the morning.

I would have to let it have it's chance. Wondering if/how a thin layer of parifin wax would do. Get it just warm enough to melt/stick and dip portions of the egg??
Or maybe paint it on?
NO expert here just thinking out loud.

The problem I think here is that the egg was already damaged from the bad packaging in the post. So it has been fractured into little bits - hairline cracks all over. Now the chick is deffinately alive and growing the crack have become more pronounced because of the pressure growing inside of the egg. It probably wont survive if it gets too much pressure as the egg will just rupture.
IT is a case of buying time. DH thinks he could paint the shell with hot nail varnish but I don;t think that would be a good idea as it is full of chemicals and the shell is litterally fragmented.
I am trying to think what can we put " over the shell to A) Strengthem it B) Stop it "moving about" to prevent accidental cracking? - If it ruptures before 21 days - say only gets to 19 or 20 - I am not sure if a chick can survive premiture birth???? Lol - I need a neonatal unit! NO a chickanatal unit!

I don't hold much hope for the little one. I amsurprised to see a live chick inside of the shell at all. It is right on its date though. I was looking up the candling pics thread in the learning zone and it is bang on development.

Oes
