Corliss, I'm with you! I also live in CT and am setting up my first coop and run this year. I have 14 chicks growing rapidly, and I have been seriously worried about how I was going to survive trying to dig down all the way around my 20x20 run to bury the wire. What a task! I'm originally from Ohio but have been in CT for over 20 years and I STILL sometimes can't believe the challenge of trying to sink a shovel in the ground in New England. I'm surprised early settlers didn't starve! Thank God I opened all the garden beds I need when I was younger, don't think I would have the stamina anymore!
We do have a good number of predators around (everybody loves chicken!), and I've grown pretty attached to my girls so I am really relieved to hear of others' successes with aprons.
Another thought, how do most of you attach the apron? I'm using half inch hardware cloth, and I've been thinking cage clips? zip ties? "sewing"/stringing some sort of wire through it? And if anyone uses cage clips, what is the best spacing of them? Thanks for any thoughts.
