Hello fellow fish lovers!

I am looking for some new inspiration for my 55 gallon long freshwater aquarium.

Right now I have 5 blood parrots (the ones from walmart) that vary in size from 5 inches right down to a wee bit bigger than a quarter. Ive had a few of them for almost 2 years..
One of them has a crooked spine and a deformed swimbladder that causes him to swim a little sideways. The others are all pretty normal but of corse have their owness about them.

About 3 years ago I had some jack dempseys and I really loved. Im thinking about swinging that way again..

What kinds of fish do you have? Which are your fav? Which do you really want?

Pics are always a plus! Even if they are googled!!

I like to buy livebearers, because my husband and I enjoy looking for babies. We have one catfish currently, a really large placo, and three of something, I think they are a barb, because I used to have some tiger striped ones as well but these that are left are just a whitish grey color. Very plain.
I previously bought Mollies and likes them, swordtails are pretty too. But what I told hubby I wanted next time is guppies again. I just love guppies! As long as my placo does not eat them! LOL. We only own a 20 gallon though. I always wonder what the life expectancy of fish are. These silvery ones I have now have been starting to die off.

I am a huge fan of malawi african cichlids. I have a 125 gallon dedicated to JUST malawis. I have about 9 different species that range from 4 to 6 inches.

But I'm also partial of a mix of community fish that aren't livebearers. And unlike most, I also like fancy goldfish. But you've got to have a REALLY big aquarium for them because they are "dirty"fish. I keep mine in an outdoor pond. I'll try to get some pics later on this week.

I have a 55 gal that I intended to be salt water. That is what I really want. BUT the fish nazi (that is what she says everyone calls her because she basically interrogates you before she lets you buy any fish-to make sure you are aware/doing it right) told me that I would have to wait a long time before I actually got fish. I was impatient and got freshwater ones. I have an angel, a gorami, some of those common little black ones.....I want to turn it into a chichiid tank though. I am really about tired of it..I have had it for close to 10 yrs....My DH is building me my dream bathroom wtih a real river rock shower and make it look like it is at a beautiful creek or something to that effect...but we are planning on putting the tank into the wall and framing around it like a picture on the wall full of fish. We should have that done in another month.

Me! Me! Me! I have a 65 gallon cichlid aquarium right now. I keep getting bored with it

but cichlids seem to be the only fish that will tolerate no heater and minimal water testing, lol! Some of my cichlids are now about 4-5 inches long!

Makes me happy to see them growing and thriving... I just hope they don't start having babies on me.

What's your tapwater like? If you have soft water, then I would recommend setting up an Amazon river tank. Think lots of lovely Amazon swords, and either angel fish OR schools of tetras (but not both, for obvious reasons).

I LOVE my cherry shrimp - look em up on aquabid. They obviously couldn't be in with a predatory type fish, they will get picked off and eaten. But, if at some later date you ever start fresh with no fish at all you could build a tank environment around these guys - they are very cool and will easily breed providing you with tiny cute BABY shrimp!! I have mine in with a few purple briggs snails and some albino and calico bristlnose plecos, and a few endlers. Some people say that endlers will kill and eat them all - even though the endlers themselves are tiny - but they haven't cleaned me out yet and I have had that tank set up fpr over a year. I love setting up new tanks! Have fun with yours...and tell us what you decide on.

here is what the cherries look like - not a great picture but these buggers are small and I'm trying to get a good pi through my thick aquarium glass, lol!
