Araucana thread anyone?

Oh No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So sorry! Everything I have read says that Araucana eggs are far more fragile than the majority of other hatching eggs, but I have yet to read an explanation of why? The lethal gene causes the chicks to die in the shell shortly before hatching, as I understand it, not to be infertile. I've been wondering if the bantam Araucana eggs are so fragile due to a lack of genetic diversity in the breed and thus a weaker gene pool ????? The exploding egg is not a good reflection on the seller of the eggs in my humble opinion. I hope you get some hatches, I really, really hope so.

I just went to skyblueegg to re-order hatching eggs (not one of her other order even began to develop) but found that she is selling pre-orders for day old bantam chicks. It's a hefty price, but considering the amount of money that could easily be sucked down the drain trying to hatch shipped eggs, it seems worth it to me!!!

Like you mentioned Megcpat, it is hard to get those chicks to hatch and fertility has been a concern for many people in the araucana breed. The 5 ones hatched from skyblue are doing great so far and developing strong. I really wish you the best with yours if you decide to get more eggs or chicks.

Do you think I was sold old eggs?
What do think I should do ?
I don't even think the eggs were in the incubator for the full 2 days. it was more like a day and a half.
and them BOOM it exploded.

Araucana eggs very often have low fertility and hatchability. It's one of the "charms" of the breed.

It *is* a bad sign if you had eggs exploding that quickly. However, I suppose it's possible that an egg sent to you at 7 days post-laying might do that....I don't really know!

Can anybody tell me what colors these peeps would be considered? I don't know anything about Araucanas, except that I've been misspelling it as "Auracana" for the longest time.

We gotta see pics of the backs!

I would *guess* -- just guess -- that the first one will be some version of duckwing, the second will be blue, and the third will be black. But only time will tell for sure!

I think informing the breeders you bought the eggs from of the exploding egg would be absolutely called for. If I ever found out that my eggs had exploded in a bator I would work as quickly as I could to replace the eggs or refund the money. I would be very anxious to right the wrong. Don't know about the people you bought your eggs from, but they should know about the problem. Exploding eggs are very different from non-developing eggs, or a poor hatch, etc.
