Araucana thread anyone?

I wonder if it's similar to other animals with soft pelvic bones... The older the animal typically the stiffer the bones are, you would just make a flat hand and press inwards at the vent area between the legs. But I have no idea if that works for chickens

Can you tell by my pictures how old my little adopted girl looks! I've had her for 6 days and there hasn't been an egg laid. Not a big deal, it's winter and all. But I wonder if I'll ever get an egg from her?


She has awful crooked toes, but other than that seems completely healthy and happy.

what is her weight/size? her face is pale so if she is not anemic she should be young.
 
In regards to how long before your get any eggs...well if she is much older, say five, her production could be greatly diminished....I would be sure to have a light on a timer in the coop and adjust with when the coop is open to natural daylight so you have a totoal of 14 hours. If you think she's younger than 6 months, you might want to wait another month before doing this cuz as you may know, it could force her to lay too soon which could be problematic.

Thanks for the suggestions. I put my coop light on at 7:30am and off at 7:30pm and I only do this because we are in Washington and in forest area and it's SO dark all the time. I'll probably be happy if she ever just gives me ONE blue egg just to experience it. She's turning out to be a very nice bird and I'm happy to give her a retirement home if that's where she's at. I'll try to get a weight on her later today for those that are interested. She seems to be about the size of my 17 week old Wyandottes for a size comparison.
 
Hello~

I am here to ask some questions. I was told by a person who bred Araucanas that this breed is prone to having the feathers around their vent get stuck with poo, is this true? My hen who is going on 4 years old has always done this since I got her, I have had to trim, pluck, and bathe her. Is there anything else I could do to help her? None of my other birds do this, and she is my only Araucana.
