Oh yes, stubs are a DQ in any clean-legged breed. I used to get them in one line of Polish but haven't in some time since I took the offending birds out of the program. I always check them after their bath, though. I've never checked any of the araucanas but this boy's grandsire is a male I bought from a beginning breeder. I bought him as a yellow-legged white but he ended up having a ton of red bleed-through. Steve Waters said I should try breeding him anyway as he liked his type, but he ended up just breaking my heart as the lovely birds he sired would get to 4 months old or so, then show the dreaded red in their hackle feathers. This boy is a result of trying one of his offspring on blacks. I'm guessing the stubs were from the original purchased bird. I know all you people love your AOV colors but, let me tell you, it's nice to win once in a while and, to do that, you need a bird that fits the recognized variety. Sigh.
