Araucana thread anyone?

Here's one of my youngsters, clean faced/rumpless. This is the first feathering, I'm wondering if it will stay this color?

And a younger hatchmate that is a bit finer boned but nice weighty bird

And the red one again, there are a couple of feathers coming in a darker red.

I have 3 new chicks too, besides the yellow chipmunk and the yellow that is feathering in white, I have a couple more black chicks and one that is well, different. Not fluffed enough to take pics yet but definitely tufted and one of the black may be tufted, really hard to see on that one.

I have some eggs coming from a breeder who told me her start came from Nancy Utterbacks Araucana's so I'm really hoping I have a good hatch.

Smoothmule, Nice looking chicks, I do like that black&white splash color. I have four black hens from Nancy's breeding. A couple of them are not as large as I would prefer but they all have have great color and lay a surprisingly large egg for their size. All my roo's are Ramey stock so should make an interesting breeding with the mix of bloodlines.

love the mottled one up top. I hope it stays that color, looks very sharp. It wouldn't surprise me if the patterning changed some. I remember hatching out cochins that looked like that and by the time they were adults, the black had evened out and the white had become more of a tipping on the feathers, it did give it a more polished look! Keep us posted!

Black and White ones look like Silver or Golden Duckwing males with either too much melanizer or something else in there.

The orangey buff one is awesome.

I would definately keep the orangy buff one if I were you. I have been unable to find many buff araucana for pictures. I think they are few and far between. They are only a standard color in the bantam, so it would be nice to see some in the large fowl. I think you need another project Cathy.
If you don't want her I will take her off your hands. I have a couple that are turning out light buff here. I am going to see if I can get a few going. None of mine appear as orangy red as yours. I am jealous.

I kinda like the redhead too. No clue what she's out of other than the rooster since all my hens with in with him at the time. If he matures with enough body to suit me he gets to stay, I'm pretty sure it's a cockerel but at least he's rumpless and got some awesome willow green legs to go with those red feathers.
I have no clue about what color hens would work better with this red or buff color but I'm sure I can come up with something. He'll get a year to prove himself so in that time, maybe a red pullet will be pulled from the hat too.

The mottled are pretty cool and I'm keeping them both till they have mature feathering and can be sexed for sure then I'll decide if they will stay or be paired with a pullet or hen to sell as pairs. I'm going to "try" to put together some complementary pairs this summer to sell and if I get pullets that are better than the hens here, some of them will go this fall with some nice young roosters.

I have a dilemma, one of the young hens I got in that last flock is pretty doggone little so I weighed her and she is 1 pound 15 ounces so she's smack dab in between LF and bantam. She's so darned cute and a neat little hen but I am going to grit my teeth and sell her, probably with one of these cockerels. She is young but I don't see her getting as large as I want. She is tufted and rumpless with a stray feather or 2 but no tail. She is a sandy color with blue underneath. I have a larger version of her but that hen is clean faced that I'll keep. Could be where the red is coming from?? Anyway, I haven't decided on a price or which of these young cockerels to pair her with to sell but they should be producing this summer since the cockerels I have to choose from were hatched Jan 14th so they should be breeding in a 2 to 4 months and the lil hen is 8 or 9 months now.

Check out this cool chick, bit of a tail bump, huge tufts on both sides. What the heck though, what color is this one? I'm getting the coolest, weird colors.
