Good luck to everyone hatching! I have a *pricing* question. What would be an appropriate asking price for this cockerel?

I'm looking to sell this bantam araucana cockerel - IF the parents were recognized colors, I *believe* he could be a gold duckwing x BBR. Very green legs, messy pea comb and nice rump (which apparently didn't make it into the photo shoot). He was chipmunk as a chick.

Apologies for the crooked pictures. They are correct on my computer and I cannot find a way to rotate them on this forum. If anyone happens to know how to correct photos the forum messed up, please let me know!

Because I am a complete chicken freak I started a mealworm farm. My husband and son are completely grossed out and my brother-in-law has been eyeing them for his fishing trips. I told them they should be glad I didn't order the cockroaches (eeeekk) or the black soldier fly larva ( shudder ). I had them in my office while my husband was working out of town, but now that he is home I moved them outside on top of a seedling heating mat. I have already been feeding some to my chickens. I thought I would be more grossed out than I am, however I have hear that the beetles are the creepy part. Yeah! Something to look forward to.

I have 10 araucana eggs in lockdown, I think these are my first batch to start and go through the whole incubation process in my new Incubator set up. I think my chickens like my daughter more than me. They laid the most while I was on vacation and she was taking care of them. Ungrateful traitors. LOL!

I have mealy worms too. They are very slow this time of year thou because I keep mine outside and it's cold. They don't creep me out. Before I started my mealy farm, I'd collect the mealy worms that take up residence under the horse and goat grain barrels.

Coberdor you need to spoil us with more photos of your Araucanas. . . My family is actually loving seeing the photos I've shown them, I've been showing them the parents and chicks in your album and telling them the likely chances of each color we'll get. They LOVE your blue-buff colored hen btw.

I have two, one must be my original hen's offspring. I'll have to get more in a couple of days. It's snowing here in Ohio and is supposed to continue tomorrow. My hens will not want o venture out if the snow accumulates in inches.

I love those little buff hens. They are in with my splash tufted roo from Smoothmule, but Ive been wandering what the cross outcome would be to ome of my duck wing Roos or my bbr? Any thoughts?

To replicate that color, your best candidates are males with little to no black in the breast. The next best is BBR or Duckwing males, yes, but half your offspring will look like normal duckwing x wheaten or pure duckwing or pure wheaten (BBR) birds. The other half will look much like her.

My boy Marango (pictured now and then in the thread, yellow and blue in color) is almost identical to your buff colored female(s) genetically speaking.

Her and the splash colored male will just make pure blue girls, blue leaky boys. Unless the boy is carrying recessive wheaten or duckwing.

Did someone say tufts? lol
I just love tufts and I love how they can be so different.

Here's a white cockerel that will go to the breeding pen this summer. He's already crowing but too young to put with the hens yet.

What about this young roo? He's very similar to your Marango in color. He's clean faced, but I could work to get tufts later once I have a few more hens. He's a nice big stocky boy.
