Are eggs that float, bad or just "not fresh"

lol i dont use the float test to see if eggs are bad... i just crack them into a glass when i need an egg and if it smells fine its usually edible

and I've gotten into a habit of cracking eggs into glasses instead of straight into whatever i happen to be cooking after hearing what happened to my grandma... 12 egg recipe of some sort all the eggs were fine till the last one and she was putting them straight into the bowl... so we always crack eggs into a glass / small bowl b4 putting it into a recipe lol good habit to get into

I just found this thread.
I just discovered a secret clutch of 7 eggs that my hens laid under a wheelbarrow.
I used the water test, all were okay. Two tilted so I cracked them open, no bad smell.
So I scrambled them up and fed them to the chickens.
They smelled just fine.
Thanks for the tip.
