Are gray chickens rare?

Wait, did you get that chick from a black roo and a lav hen? If you did, you got me thinking...I could use Black Orps to improve the appearance of Lavenders!!

No. I got the hatching eggs online. I tried to get more but they had already sold their lavender roosters so they wouldn't guarantee they would be pure. So they wouldn't sell more.

Okay, cause I looked over the genes in black and lavender chickens and it appears that within 2 generations of breeding black and lavender chickens you can actually at some point get 100% lavender

Underpants lol ... I think that was autocorrect and I was falling asleep. I meant underparts and my phone does want to make it "underpants". Maybe I should start calling the chicken's lower areas underpants.

Lavender is recessive. Lavender also dilutes red/buff. It's impossible to distinguish pure black from black split to lavender.

Lavender x black = 100% black split for lavender (carrying lav gene)
Lavender x split - 50% lavender, 50% black split for lav
Split x split = 25% lavender, 50% black splits, 25% black
Black x split = 50% split, 50% black
