Are my chickens keepig me from a roommate?

Heelers, I think what everybody is hinting at is that your dogs are probably the Dog Whisperer's dream come true, but not many renters are in tune with that.

It's like having a child you dearly love, but doesn't do a thing for strangers. Same thing.

No, I definitely am getting the more-than-hint. I would have to agree with another poster that is probably is the pit more than anything...she is a sweetie, but she looks scary. My heeler Rusty is well trained and very easy to manage - not a jumper, easily crated, etc etc. My roommate is a 'hands off' owner, which might be causing problems.

I am thinking of offering the room at a lower rent as well.

I agree with everyone else, it is probably the dogs. I'm a groomer and love dogs more than anyone else. I don't think it has anything to do with the pit as far as a breed, just that amount of dog under one house. I have two large dogs of my own and 99% of the time it isn't a problem, but, when someone comes to the door they can be fairly obnoxious, I'm guessing that may be what people are afraid of too. I know plenty of people who live in 10 dog households, and people who live with 1, it just depends on what you can handle. It probably also has a lot to do with the economy, people are able to get pretty good deals on rent right now, and have more options than they did before.

I would just advertise a dog friendly home/room. I would not list what breed of dogs they are, let them meet and decide on their merit.
If they are willing to meet them they may be willing to bunk with them.
As far as price, you may want to lower it a little if you can. Or maybe you can offer an incentive like the first 2 months full price and the next two months at $50 off.?
Are you in an area that has a population that would be interested in renting a room?
IS IT NON-SMOKING?
Good Luck,

Haha - non smoking and drug free.

I live in a college town, you bet there are a lot of folks out here who need roommates! My roommate is 29 and I am 22, no one is creepy or weird (unless having chickens and dogs is creepy and weird) and we are both working students....ie, the typical type of roommate!
