Are my hens really "Ameraucana's"

Are her eggs blue?

Gary
Blue is subjective.... my daughter and I have varying opinions of what color our eggs are.

That my dear is an EE. The link aart gave you should answer your questions about true Ameraucanas.

Feed stores often don't know the difference and are selling them as what the hatchery labeled them. Much of their other info is often incorrect as well. For example one employee insisted a customer switch to Layena when their birds were only 12 weeks old! Because they need layer feed and that is the best... according to the young misled man...

Hope your health gets better!

We don't eat many eggs either and have 40+ birds for my family of 3. Also, just a hobby for me. I have sold a few eggs but end up giving most away. Chicken TV mught not be cheaper than cable, but it's way more fun and even benefits my health a bit to be out and moving around.

So are you saying the hatcheries are misleading people? Lying.... I have a blue Americauna coming form Myers in April, should I assume its an imposter even though they are charging me $22 for it?

Gary

Must. Finish. Coop.

If it is called Americauna, then it is really just an EE. The real name is AmerAUcana. Hatcheries mislead people all the time by using a similar name - Americana, Americauna and sometimes the real name, Ameraucana - for EEs. Most people don't know any better and fall for it, unfortunately.

I don't know about Meyers. They're probably mixed, but I can't say for sure. I've never had them.

Nope.... notice the Blue in front of Ameraucana? And the price.... their EE are under $3 there.

You should get a Blue Ameraucana.... but it could be black, maybe since blue doesn't breed true.

But you can see here, ideal is calling theirs with an "au" as well....

And then claim they represent the breed and variety, even if not show quality! Talk about cop out.

Could also be splash.

They even note the different plumage color possibilities

This has been going on for years. With careful reading of the descriptions it's pretty easy to pick up the disclaimers or other words that tell the tale.
Last year we started seeing some legit hatchery Ameraucanas, one place had John Blehm(a long reputable breeder) stock.
