Had 10 pekin ducks put in the incubator on feb. 2, temperature of 37.8 this whole time. Flip them 5x a day. One was bad about a week ago, I smelt the most rancid smell, rotten. Found the egg, tossed it out. Well, I candled again tonight. Some it's really hard to see... one egg looks good, I can see baby move. The other 8 I see no movements. A couple have big air sacks and little blackness. Still has veins though. I'm scared a lot are dead but what if they are not and I toss them for no reason.
I'm so unsure, is it safe to just leave the ones I'm not sure about and take a chance? I smell no stink smells, like I did before. Is there a chance they'll explode once it's lock down and kill the healthy ones? I feel really dumb right now. I have Googled all I can but it's not helping me. I don't know what to look for except blood ring and clear eggs, which I don't see.

Basically, can I just leave them in there aND see how it plays out? Like I said, out of 9 I only see movement in 1. Help me here.:barnie:idunno

The only thing I know is that when it's about time to hatch the shell is pretty full of baby and it gets really hard to see any movement.
Sometimes you can put an egg to your ear and lightly tap it and see if you hear anything.
I hope they are still alive! :)

Thank you for responding to my thread. I'm just at a loss on what to do in this situation. Don't want to toss what could be a healthy baby duck. Or what If they are dead and explode. I dunno. Like some eggs look totaly different than eachother. a couple more so than the other.

See but a lot of my eggs don't look like day 20 should or even look like any of the pictures I've seen. I know one is for sure alive and it look nothing like these pics? The alive one is almost all black expect the air bubble thing. A lot of the others aren't all black. Some are a little black and some have big air bubble. One is large air bubble and small black at end.

With still a week to go, they won't likely be all dark yet, but should be over half dark. And depending on which way they are positioned during candling can have a weird effect on what we see. Look from multiple angles, shine your light from all directions (especially thru the air cell, of course)
So at 3 weeks in, if you see almost all yellow, then its likely nothing developing. If you see all black, I'd be concerned about possible rotting, but as you found before, they usually warn our noses first.
If the air cells are too large, you can gradually increase the humidity and try to slow them down some.

Thank you so much!!
If I can, I will post some pictures so you guys can see. It's just kinda hard to get any pics.
You gave me a lot of helpful information.

Okay got a few pics of the ones I'm questioning.

One I was taking a pic of started to move so I was wrong about one lol.
One egg has a chemically smell but it doesn't smell like rot? I'm also scared when candling them.. don't want to jabble them or get them too cold.

Here's one I'm most concerned about

see all that white? And little black at end?
And it kinda smells chemically. No movements.

Here's how a few more look odd
