i actually throw up when i eat vegetables, and i love my meat.... i really dont think that there is any need for sarcasm either, this was supposed to be an open, non-judgemental topic area. and yes it is a lot cheaper to process your own animals than to go out and buy all organic, i also raise Boer goats(meat goats) and show them. Just cause i do, doesnt make it wrong. I adore all my animals, regardless of what they are and treat them all with respect, and care for them all equally

i really want goats but i dont have enough land

Or you could be prepared to pay someone else to do it... ;)

I have done it myself, and am prepared to again in the future. It has really helped to have the experience and have a handle on how to help a bird out if it's injured or ill beyond what is acceptable.

I raise DP also, but the pasture raised broiler traded to me for a flock rooster by the guy I found to process my meat, was indeed one of the best I've had.... without any brining or other magic tricks.

We do grow fruits and vegetables on our 1 acre with what little sun we get. Our growing season is short. And the other challenges related to weather are many. We plant ONLY edible plants when we do. No I'm not allergic to them and I think they are tasty and delightful, when HOMEGROWN. Are you kidding me... have you tasted a white store bought tomato or strawberry that's been transported hundreds of miles + if not imported. :sick I refuse to eat something that taste like... well, nothing. :idunno

Killing YES, exploiting NO.

Anyways, in this day and age it is pretty cool how much most of us do have access to. Seriously I love bananas. :drool But I agree with the person who said this was a nonjudgmental area as indicated by the OP, even though it wasn't posted as a rule.

But beyond that... in THIS day and age... what gives you the right to tell someone else how they should live? Just because you don't eat animal products does not make you better than those who chose not to follow your religion. Why do people get all high and mighty when they suddenly become vegan and wanna scoff when someone doesn't measure up to their new found pulpit? :rant

Anyways, live and let live! :gig

Hot button topic... :pop
you are awesome!!

i guarantee you that no animal suffers as much as a butchered or enslaved chicken in the process of growing broccoli, which is far cheaper and more nutritious. maybe you think that the LIFE and suffering of animals is an acceptable cost for convenience and tasty treats but you can obviously see what people think about that point of view. somebody needs to speak up for these poor animals that can't do it themselves
So the thousand of mice, voles, gophers, and other critters that are crushed and chopped to bits by the plows tilling the fields suffer less. Guess you never actually stopped to think about what goes into growing that broccoli. A cockerel that is hatched and raised, on forage, on my own property literally costs me nothing.

what gives you the right to steal another animal's freedom and life for the sake of a tasty snack you don't really need? what do you think the chickens would say about it if they could speak? you have many easier and cheaper options

so you don't think there's a difference between the occasional animal being accidentally killed and specifically killing an animal to have a snack? i don't think there's any way of justifying it unless you live somewhere that vegetables can't grow and you're just too poor to do anything except hunt

You seem to think that everyone has the same sort of access to the 'easier and cheaper options'. You don't seem to realize that there are places within the United States, where grocery stores aren't on every corner. It's not a matter of a tasty snack that isn't needed. It's that some people honestly do need that meat on the table or the kids go hungry.

I am soooo glad you know my familys income, especially since my parents are going through a divorce, my mom was just recently fired, we live in a rental house and are expected to have enough money to provide for ourselves and our animals. My mom just had to apply for foodstamps. Do you know what it is like to not have a dad? To have a stranger in the house that ignores you, the only daughter/child, as well as your mother? to never get a call? to be assaulted by that stranger? I dont think so. I was raised to respect everyone, and to not judge until they start disrespecting you, and i am finding you incredibly rude, and just disgraceful right now
