Oh goodness...there's no reason to feel silly. Asking is the best thing you can do if you're unsure about something. That's what we're here for. That's how all of us have learned, we ask questions and/or learn from our mistakes.
If I hadn't hatched upright eggs, I wouldn't know anything about it. And I wondered, just like you, when my first upright eggs were developing like that. I was familiar with hatching eggs on their sides. Upright appears quite different.
but had more development in a couple different eggs!
