This is a Embden/Chinese gosling, day 30. So two mornings ago I got my first pip, on the side of the shell no where near the air sac. Tonight (60 hours later) I started the assist. It was very shrink wrapped and the veins are dry, no blood. I’ve been doing little bits throughout the evening and finally, the top half of little one is free. I’ve done several hatchings before, mostly ducks some chickens, and I’ve never seen this. It’s like a white sac next to the baby in the egg, it seems to go down and attach to the naval but I’m afraid to peel that far. This was from my gooses first clutch she abandoned, I’m surprised it was viable at all after all of those cold nights.

What do I do?? Will it be okay??

To me it does not look ready yet. I can see red blood.

If the whiteish area is attached to its navel it’s likely to be the the yolk sac. This needs to finish absorbing. Can you put some Vaseline on the membrane that’s left and put it in the incubator to finish off. ideally it needs to stay in what’s left of the egg. Good luck with this gosling :fl

I did a tiny bit more egg removal this morning, baby is still chirping like she’s healthy. But this mass on the side has not gone down at all, and I can’t tell but I don’t think it’s directly attached to the naval, see photo. She stays in the incubator, I can’t find any signs of life anymore in the egg next to her.

Looks like yolk sac to me
Baby is not ready to hatch
I do worry with that much shell removed baby will push out and the yolk is now open to the heat and can dry up
Get a small bowl or cup ready to place baby in if it pushes out of the egg
That amount of yolk the baby probably has another 8-12 hours of absorbing
