This is like the 3rd thread I’ve posted in a week but here we go 😂

I purchased 3 (supposedly) Barred Rock pullets from TSC, and 2 straight run Buff Orpingtons. I was just wondering if anybody could look at their combs and help me out with sexing them? I realize it might be too early to tell, since they are only 4 weeks old, but I figured I might as well give it a shot.

All pictures are of a different chicken. I only took one picture of each to reduce confusion.

I should probably mention the 2nd Barred Rock in the photos was the “runt” and is still growing at a steady pace and is acting normally, but is a little more behind in development than the other 2.

Oh and one more thing, on all 3 barred rocks they are mostly black. The barring isn’t super prominent, and on the first pic, her barring is a little bit more prominent then the other two, but still not very prominent nonetheless.

I know it’s futile to try and see if perhaps there’s still hope that those 2 of the barred rocks are pullets, but I’m still going to try. Here’s pics of the one with the most white’s barring, and leg wash.

I think I'd wait a while before trying to figure it out. Our barred rock hen had a big red comb and wattle from the time she was little. We even named her Rocky because we were sure she was a guy. Well, SHE lays huge pinkish eggs, but she's still Rocky.

Thank you so much! It gives me hope that maybe they are pullets after all! I guess we will just have to see! 😂

All the chickens are hens, thank God!
Yes praise God! Glad to know that some Bared Rocks look like roos but actually turn out to be hens! This seems to be a trend as far as I can tell from this thread, will keep this in mind in the future when responding to threads and dealing with these birds myself.
