This is my nearly-5 month old hen. She is usually very active and hungry, but she has been very lethargic and has lost her appetite for the most part (only eats some food that is hand given). She is still alert and can run if necessary to but prefers to walk. Same thing with talking, she doesn't really talk but is vocal when you pat her.

Her chest is covered in dry spit that has been regurgitated. I've cleaned her beak a few times, and everytime I check she has a heap of spit built up that I wipe away. On two instances I found a sunflower seed that I carefully removed from her beak.

In terms of the crop, I don't know if I've located it correctly, but it feels very small a bit hard. The reason I'm not confident is it feels too high up on her neck. I think the issue is more related to impacted crop then sour, which would be squishy and she would smell very bad.

The first image is today where she's in her isolated cage, the second image was yesterday outside under supervision, and the third was her nearly a month ago before the issue. If anyone has any feedback that would be appreciated, if not I will contact the vet asap.

(If I've missed anything I had a previous post from a few days ago which might have additional information, I just made a new one for new information and now photos)

I'm sorry she's not feeling well! that is a pretty big looking crop and the spit up would indicate that she's having a hard time. Is her crop empty in the morning at all? Or even smaller even if a little bit? It sounds like something might be stuck.

Generally impacted crop fix is withhold food for a little while, let her rest somewhere comfortable and dark and maybe give her just a few drops of a chicken safe oil and very very gently massage the crop don't try to push stuff up or down but similar to how you would gently rub your belly if you had a stomach ache and trying to get things moving but be very gentle and try to encourage water and some small grit.

However I personally haven't dealt with impacted crop in mine all of my knowledge of it is just from research, hopefully one of the experts in here that's fixed it themselves will be able to offer more insight as well I hope she feels better soon

It has felt the same shape for the past few mornings. When I feel it it doesn't feel as big as it looks, probably around 2cm.

I've been withholding food and giving her soft food every now and again to fill her up. She has water with a little bit of safe oil but I don't think she's been drinking it. I've tried to give her some orally but she pushes her beak away so I don't want to force her.

I'll use your advice and hopefully she gets better soon, thank you so much for your time

@Debbie292d @BigBlueHen53 @Ridgerunner any ideas?

To help with the drinking I have found dipping a art paintbrush in the water so that it's soaked and holding it near them a little above their beaks helps encourage mine to drink when I'm in that situation they like biting at the paintbrush bristles and they get all the water out of the paintbrush when they bite it and then you can see them swallow it down maybe worth a shot

Thank you for that, that's a really nice idea
