Well, like T. Boone Pickens said, it runs down every street and alley. Years ago, he convinced the State of Arizona to convert a lot of state vehicles to bi fuel. When the natural gas ran out, a flip of a switch changed the vehicle over to gasoline. It worked pretty well. Cars used natural gas in town, and then switched to gasoline when out of town.

Iran never did build a refinery to produce gasoline, but now they are powering their automobiles on natural gas.

When we convert our nation to natural gas, the Arabs can just go back to milking camels.

Intersting discussion. Perhaps if gas can continue to replace oil in non-car use that will help decrease the demand in those areas. I often hear of houses converting to gas and a pipeline was put thru crossing a number of towns. Sorry I'm not up on the details. Cars can still be made more fuel efficient. ANd I beleive taxpayers should stop subsidizing the oil companies. THat would save right there; seems to me they get enough at the pumps already and are making hand over fist. Why would THAT entitle oil companies to tax breaks.

Can you name any tax breaks that oil companies get that every other company isn't entitled to ?

Here all the public buses and trash trucks run on it.

Iran does have oil refineries just not enough for the amount of gasoline they use.

It doesn't make sense to me that a company that that is doing well and making a profit should get a tax break. If a company is running in the red, then some tax breaks make sense. Another Tax break is when a company makes a deal with say a state, and if that company will relocate in that state the normal state taxes are reduced or eliminated.

If a company is profitable, why is this kind of tax break commonly allowed. Not sure I'm phrasing everything quite right. I hear from news sources that the big oil companies get tax breaks--if they are profitable why should they or any other company not pay their share of the taxes.

Here is another one. I know of a company that hires seasonal workers, every year like clock work. THey will hire these workers whether or not there is a federal bonus to hiring. ANd this company has no intention of keeping these workers long term. THe amount of work is very predicatable and the number of man hours very concrete. After the holidays the work load drops and the workers are let go. Yet this company tries to benefit from a federal program designed to loosen up the market and promote and encourage hiring to expand companies.

Can you help me understand why being entitled to applying for tax breaks is equated with automatically getting this tax break even if the company is running in the black? Maybe I"m misunderstanding this.

Do you think a company ever pays any taxes ?

I have a friend whose husband has a company that installs flooring and she does the book. Yup, they pay taxes. We were not having an indepth discussion and she mentioned many costs to running the company. Maybe I misunderstood.

Are you saying that only indiviuals ( and families) pay taxes?

We are a S-corp, we pay 100% of the taxes on our corp.. Well We didn't get the money we payed taxes on. Just to pay employees we have to double match the fica (thats the medicare, employment security(unemployment tax) and one other thing i can't think of right now) the employee pays one part, now we pay twice as much. We pay workmans comp on vacation time (I relise this is not a tax but someone lobbied the insurance industry for this) You can not get workmans comp to pay for you getting hurt on your vacaton!!!!!! WHY do I have to pay for your vaction time!!!! It is so hard to be a small business. BUT we are a corporation. We have 4 Employees. (FOUR) We used to have 40. Good luck America. We fall on our knees daily and pray to be able to take care of those we have left. Thank the lord we are doing what we are doing.

Why should a corporation pay taxes? I am all for the elimination of the double taxation of earnings. The money is now taxed when the corporation earns it, then it is taxed again when it is paid out as dividends. How many slices of the pie does the federal government want anyway? If the company paid taxes on it when it was earned, then maybe I shouldn't have to pay taxes on it when I get my dividend.

We now have some of the highest corporate taxes in the world. I read an article about Tupperware. About ninety per cent of their business is outside the US. They probably could double their earnings by just moving their incorporation abroad. Then they would only have to pay those taxes applicable in the host country and those taxes earned by a US subsidiary.

Heavy taxes run companies out of the US.

If it was only That easy. Not all companies get tax breaks, and the ones that do are usually the very big ones. Tax loopholes and all, but there is more to that too. They pay corporate taxes, and payroll taxes, and unemployment taxes and matching taxes for FICA, Sales taxes, very high property taxes and that includes taxes on desks and computers, and cars and buildings, office chairs, file cabinets, coffee makers, cubicles, unsold inventory, etc etc etc. sure they may get some big breaks, but I promise you that without them they would not employ as many people, who pay taxes only if they are employed. they employ MANY accountants and lawyers to reduce the taxes they pay.
It is just not that simple!
if you have a business in the local city, they charge 1% on your GROSS Sales+ property taxes, and sign permits building permits etc. and businesses Pay the trash collection company in the city. residents are "free" but not for business.

RobertH

Oh and Phone bills, water bills, sewer bills, electric bills, Gas bills, property taxes etc are generally HIGHER RATES than residential rates.

Ask a business owner

And Health care costs will run you out of business and the Obamacare is going to make it 10x worse
