I have a 12-year old German Shepherd who will chase anything that moves. He goes berserk at the summer sheep through the fence. A few times over the years he's gotten into them, never killed or injured any, but it about gives me a heart attack. When I got chickens last year, I had to put him on a rope or keep him in the house. A few times we went outside and there was an escaped chicken walking around. He ran over to it, it looked at him and kept walking, and he decided chickens weren't fun because they wouldn't run from him. Slowly over the last year, he became oblivious to them. I can throw his ball right through them and he goes for his ball and ignores them. Occasionally he hops toward one to scare her, and she flies a few feet away. He looks at me with a big smile that says, "that's fun." I still can't believe he just ignores them. He's in and out of the pen with them and drinks out of their water. I think he was afraid of them at first because they would come so close to him when he's lying on the grass, and he wasn't sure if they would attack him.
