Arizona Chickens

I got three piping away, hatch time is actually midnight.. (who on earth would stay up till midnight to set a hatch?)

. I can see feathers and hear lots of peeping out of one and that little chick has claustrophobia it's working overtime to get out. So far only my AS are piping none of my DW.. I'm worried about them as they traveled all the way from KS. My teen thinks it's easy to entertain me every time I leave the bator I have her come sit by it, she doesn't get the thrill..

Renee, try calling the pound...they may have one, you never know!

As for rescues..IME it is darn near impossible to get an animal from a rescue.

So much paperwork, home visits, $$, waiting lists, rules and random "no this" and "no that". I think its easier to adopt a child!

Oh I'm so glad!!! She is a really great lady, and helps a LOT of dogs, and some cats find home, either through rescue, or people who have found dogs they can't keep, or people who can't keep their pets

We were going to get a lab from her rescue last year, but he was already spoken for. So we got Tank, his family was moving and couldn't keep him, he's pretty blind, and has some dwarfism going on - but he's a great dog!!! We named him Tank because he's a big silver lab, and he bumps into stuff

I am sure the rescues make you jump through some hoops to adopt an animal since they are at a rescue for a reason. But no, it is NOT easier to adopt a child. I am sure you were trying to be funny, but really, it was just insensitive as you don't who you may be offending by something like that.

Ok, I'm off the soapbox.

I'm a little chicken,
Ready to hatch,

Pecking at my shell,
Scratch, scratch, scratch.
When I crack it open, out I'll leap,
Fluff up my feathers and cheep, cheep, cheep!

Brooder Question,
So, I've decided to use a larger brooder. What are the pro's and cons of each? Either an extra large wire dog crate with cardboard on sides to keep chicks from walking out until they are bigger, or a 50 gallon rubbermaid. My DH was thinking the rubbermaid would be so much better because I wouldn't have to crawl into it to clean it (a plus), but we will have to make a new top for the rubbermaid (minor negative), but the wire dog crate would be much bigger and roomier (same length and twice as wide). What do you guys think?

A word on Chicken Math.
Last Spring I told Hubby, " I just want to get 4 or 5."
A month later, " I meant 4 or 5 of each kind."
Now, the calculator is broken.
