Arizona Chickens

Glad you got them and sorry I missed you. It's more likely than not that the white eggs and the small brown eggs will be unfertile. I'm just hoping they are starting to get the job done. I've watched the Icelandic roo do his thing, but it might be just too hot. Both of the marans roos are 'scared' of one another so I think that's part of the problem. I may remove one of the roos to see if that helps.
The two large marans eggs come from one of my original FBCMs that is under the Blue Wheaten roo, so if you get a pullet from either of those eggs, it will be an Olive Egger. I'm hoping that most of the 7 purebred Ameraucana eggs are fertile.

I only got 8 eggs today... got 3 yesterday and 9 the day before. so inconsistent.

Tomorrow... paint for the new brooder!

This is helpful - I've been buying my feed at the most expensive place. I've never heard of Gordon's Feed and Seed, so I guess i'll look them up.

Last time I checked (although it was several years ago) Gordon's only carried Arizona Feeds brand. Ray's carries Kelley's, which is a MUCH better product. Pratt's has their own product. Not sure what all brands Stock Shop carries, but I do know they now carry King brand, which many consider to be THE BEST.

Feed prices usually change with every delivery. With all the flooding in the big grain producing parts of tge country, I expect prices to be really high come fall.

I got a peep already! Looking for a pip.

Speaking of Chicken feed (Nice research ca) does anyone know of a brand with less corn to accommodate our summer temps?

(edited to correct spelllllling

There's an outrageouly expensive No Corn No Soy brand from I think Oregon or Washington that some folks on hte Permaculture Guild use. I don't remember if it is organic or not, but probably is. I will say I am very ingtrigued by the ingredients; but with as many birds as I have, I can't afford $25+ per bag.

Theres a place in TX selling a no soy, they said they have 10% corn in it. But no-one has it here yet and I can't pay shipping.

Oh heck. New to this! Marked them public, go try again!

UNBELIEVABLE. You are correct. 5 boys and 1 girl. Not good odds.... but you can Craigs list them, I sold almost all of mine from $5 to $15 each.

I had 6 boys and 3 girls from Easter hatch... I saved a blue wheaten with nice BLUE legs and I save a splash wheaten that is going to be a real looker and will replace my current splash roo that I bought from Peachick.

I sold two of the pet quality girls and saved the one with the best muffs and beard.

Well, I think about 90% of my barred rock chicks are boys

VERY NICE! IMS on 48th south of Broadway always has expanded metal. We were there for the first time in a long while last Friday. It's always fun looking at their products. They had some absolutely gorgeous copper sheeting.
