Arizona Chickens

That's fine, just let me know

So I checked my mealworms. No babies. Bazillion beetles. Bought another habitat, put all the beetles in it. Found two (2) live mealworms. Teeny tiny ones. Do I have sterile beetles? Put down brown paper in the beetle bin. It's been MONTHS! I should be swarming in mealworms!

Mahonri: I'm pleased to report that she's sitting happily on the eggs. I'll candle around day ten, and let you know how things are developing. Honestly, I'll be happy if I just get a chick or two, especially as warm as it is. I'm running the mister during the hottest part of the day, hopefully that will keep the eggs from getting too hot and help keep the humidity up.

Last year I had a hen that hatched out 4 or 5 on the 4th of July, so these eggs would be just a few days past those and remember we got over 110 many times during those three weeks last year... Crossing my fingers for you!

Meg,
I had the same situation! Nothing but a black swarm of beetles for about 8 weeks or so. I came to the same conculsion and thought they were sterile. Then I discovered a few tiny worms and now a week later every time I pick up some food there are tons of worms on it. Some are now almost an inch. It's like worms are exploding in my tub.
Give it another week or two. Hopefully you are at the same stage!

This is helpful - I've been buying my feed at the most expensive place. I've never heard of Gordon's Feed and Seed, so I guess i'll look them up.

Gordon's Feed & Seed, 600 W Broadway Rd, Phoenix 85041 602-276-8894. On the phone they said the brand was Nutrena.

Stock Shop said theirs is Purina. DD I think is New Mexico Brand, the others I don't know.

Does it have a legband? Most breeders & exhibitors use permanent leg bands. Do you have a photo?

Not that I saw.

She wasn't still in the coop at sundown, but she's around. We're free food, so I bet she'll stick around. If I catch her again, I will put her ina her own cage.

Like I need more animals.

Beautiful. From what I read last month, sometimes they just need a rest stop. You know, Laree's B&B. If you could throw in a perch massage the word might get around...

Last month the pigeon (banded) just rested up and flew off.
