I'm so sorry. My chickens were really suffering from the heat today. I went out to check them and changed the wading pools out several times. There's a heat advisory today and tomorrow.
I'm dealing with a horse that doesn't sweat. Wish I could find him a home in the mountains somewhere.

Thanks. I wonder if we even have fowl pox around here. I know it's bad in South TX and LA but I was thinking it was associated with severe humidity.
Oh yes; it is very definitely here; it is closely associated with mosquitoes, not necessarily humidity.. I've had it in my flock; as have a couple of neighbors. A friend in Scottsdale had her whole flock come down with it a year or two ago, I know several others who have had it as well. Most of the time it is not really a big deal; but the first time your flock gets it, most folks seem to be paranoid. I know several folks here that vaccinate for it.
That might be something worth vaccinating for, since we have flood irrigation and tons of mosquitoes.

I'm leaving the juvies out all day now, hoping the muddy places I make them will encourage them to stay cool on the grass, but the only ones smart enough to hang out by the hens mister are the spotted sussex.
Thanks everybody for the kind thoughts about Duster...I'm sure it was the heat, but between the misting system (on a timer) over a dirt area on one side of the coop, and a hose mister w/oscillating fan and a bunch of shade & shade cloth on the other, I don't know what else we could have done....
I ran out the minute I got home from work with some ice cold watermelon but it was too late
