Hello, I'm from Cottonwood, AZ. Have friends in Tucson though but stay clear of the Phx area during the heat waves. How did everyone do with the huge duststorms in Phx?

I've been working on my chicken run/coop since the chicks arrive June 23rd, finally moved them out there last night after a major cloud burst that helped me recognize potential flooding issues.

It hasn't been as hot as you are talking, but when they were in my uninsulated or cooled art studio it was staying well over 95... and hotter in the P.M when I got home. I wrapped two of my larger camp freezer packs in terry towel and they would roost and roll and try to dust bath on them. Seemed to work. That and electrolytes in their water as long as they are stressed. We'll see how they do with the outdoor pen, they saw sunshine and open sky for the first time this morning!

They love the new pen. The world is bigger than 5 X 5 X 2!!!

Tonight they couldn't all seem to figure out getting back into the temp coop, so I put my infra red miners light inside the coop and they followed it right in. Talk about conditioning.

It would be nice to hear from local folks with similar issues.

My current flock is /Albion' - Welsumer Roo with 2 hens, The Golden Wyandotte sisters 'Diva' and 'Darlin', The Buff Brahma banty sisters 'Peaches' & 'Cream', my 'Leda' (white) and Rowen (golden/red head) EE and what I call my Teacup Banty's a Seabright pair, that makes 11 right? I am threatening to get a chihuahua shoulder bag to carry the Seabright pair around in...

last night i could hear all the birds still panting at 11:30 when I went to bed. I am seriously surprised they are all still alive this morning when I got up at 5am.

There was one dark brahma girl who didn't go to bed last night. Instead she jumped on the roof of the coop! I didn't get home until after 8pm(took the twins shopping in Anthem). Scared the pants off of me when I walked into the yard, thought it was an owl or something.
