Arizona Chickens

Thanks all

Is there a good place to go for 'Arizona specific' information (heat, dangers, local breeders etc) or is that all in this thread? I have not had a good chance to search the whole forum yet so forgive me for posting a question that has probably been asked a zillion times before

Here is the best place, but a search will get you to the specific posts faster.

Shade is your biggest thing. 100% shade, not just filtered shade. Water, Water, Shadeshadeshadeshade.

Frozen treats and fans.

I use solar greenhouse fans from ebay. ~$55 with shipping, but then I don't ahve to spend $1 a day per fan for electricity.

The chickens like the pans of water to stand in. They transfer the heat out that way. It can be smelly, since they stand there and poop--but I think it is worth the extra clean up.

and you can call me Laree (larry).

They poop everywhere anyways, I am getting used to the smell (almost)

We also use that green shade cloth you can get from Lowe's or somewhere like that. I was surprised on how well it works. When it's really hot, we hose it down and it stays damp so any breeze that goes through gives the run an evaporative effect. I like Laree's idea of the solar fans, too. I'll have to check that out!
