last night i could hear all the birds still panting at 11:30 when I went to bed. I am seriously surprised they are all still alive this morning when I got up at 5am.

There was one dark brahma girl who didn't go to bed last night. Instead she jumped on the roof of the coop! I didn't get home until after 8pm(took the twins shopping in Anthem). Scared the pants off of me when I walked into the yard, thought it was an owl or something.

Same up our way, but though the girls look rough in the high temps they have always made it through over the past years (even record hot years) except for an older hen that fall victim to the heat and or stress this year. Never lost one to heat before her...

Just a few more long weeks and things slowly start cooling as days grow shorter.

I just spent the last two days in Phoenix. It was amazing to see the giant clouds all around the perimeter of the city and blue sky above. What a tease! As we started driving out of the city, we focussed on one large cloud in the sky to the south, towards Tucson. We were so surprised that the cloud we saw in Phoenix was over our house in Tucson.

One of my original chickens is fading, probably due to heat exhaustion. I will be sad to see her go. I put her in a shady spot with water next to her head, but I don't think she'll make it. I think she has something else going on as well--and the heat isn't helping. *sigh*

Mahonri- I am going to have to do some major hatching for the NYD hatch to make up for all these losses.
