Arizona Chickens

Thank you. I am calling Dr. Bob at 8 and get his opinion on what to do. Such a shock. Happy and healthy one day and then I find her on the floor. I am guessing she could have had a heart attack. Is that possible in a young gal? I am just bewildered.

Mama Hen Chris, I'm so sorry. You might contact the Colorado State or Oklahoma State pathology department of the vet school and ask about a necropsy. I've had them done on other livestock. They are very reasonable. You will need to pack her in ice right away if you want to go this route. I wouldn't bother with a regular vet. It would probably a waste of money.

Hey, does anyone remember me? I can't believe it's already been a year since my last visit. How is everyone? We're still not in a house, but it's starting to look much more promising. Is anyone in the San Tan Valley? That's where we're looking. The majority of houses are in HOAs though so I'm a little worried we won't be able to have chickens. Someone told me that they had friends in Johnson Ranch once who had chickens, so maybe there are some exceptions. The people with the chickens have since moved out of state, though, so I can't find out for sure. I know when I was posting in here last year someone mentioned sometimes there are HOAs that are okay with chickens. I'm just not sure how to go about finding out the rules for the different HOAs, I guess. Well, I just wanted to stop in and say hi, I hope you and all your lil' chickens are doing well!

I would think it would be written clearly in the HOA documentation if livestock or poultry is allowed. I don't think you would find it all in one place though (perhaps it would be at the Maricopa County Recorders Office?). I believe Mesa (Planning and Zoning?) has a list of registered interested parties whenever you have to notify your neighbors of certain modifications and you can input a certain radius and print out a list -you may be able to at least get the names of the HOA from that type of a search if it is in Mesa and then look up on the County website for HOA recorded documents if there is such. I don't think San Tan is in Mesa though so check with whatever city (or maybe just the County) for something similar.

Thank you for the info.

She went down to U of A today and I should get the results back by Friday. Have you heard if they were any good there? The only thing was from them is if I wanted her back, they would have her cremated by one of their 2 pet services. They will not release her otherwise. A gentleman from my work owns a pet crematory here in PHX and told me he would cremate her for free for me. Since U of A won't release her to me, I told them to dispose her body.

Hopefully it was of natural causes and nothing that could have been prevented. Not that you could have prevented it anyways. that is one reason I wish chickens could talk. Let us know.

I do hope it was just natural causes. She was just too young to go. Her sister, Phoebe keeps calling for her. I gave her a little extra treat of BOSS excluding the others. DD told me that our EE sat with Phoebe today and comforted her I guess in a chicken kind of way.

I hear you. My Millie has been "talking" all day my DD told me. DD called me at work so I could hear her. I am sure they know exactly what happened.
