DO NOT GET ME STARTED!!!

My wife would have a hairy fit if she even heard you suggest that!

those incubators look cool as heck though...

I even have a couple of ideas for timing circuits for the tipping of the eggs...

WAIT! STOP! STEP AWAY FROM THE IDEAS!!!

Once the ideas sneak in... That's it.

Got a letter from the City. Someone complained I will be rehoming, culling all but 20 hens.
For those who can pick up my culls (Including my nice purebred roos), they have to be gone by Monday evening.

Monday I'll be tearing apart and having hauled away my two pens.

I'll be keeping

2 Marans,
1 Olive egger,
3 BW Ameraucans
1 Brahma
1 RIR
1 NHR
1 SLW
1 Leghorn
1 Polish
8 Icelandics

The rest are history.

Those that aren't gone by Monday morning will go either to a friends farm in Mesa or to my cousin's farm in West Phoenix.

What's available.

4 Marans
3 Icelandics PLUS 3 roos
2 BEAUTIFUL. one show quality BW Americana roos
2 splashW Ameraucana roos
2 brahma hens,
6 EE hens
7 w/BW Ameraucana hens
1 TJ leghorn roo
some others

Guess I'm through breeding.

Mohonri, I'm so very sorry. I'd rather hear chickens than city noise any day.

If any of you want to come over on Labor Day morning to help remove chickens and roos let me know.

I should sell them but I won't... sad that 4 of them will be the ones I got from Meg. Got 4 eggs out of them and haven't gotten anymore.

I will miss the sound of those roos in the morning. I will miss breeding and incubating.

Sad news mahonri,

What is the rule where you are? I am guessing 20 hens and no roos since that is what you are keeping? Man I just couldn't ever live in a city.... Rural or small towns only, but the county still manages to mess me up now and then as well.

Sorry you have to give up some of your birds and would help, but already picking up some hens from pastrymama today to help her downsize. May have room for 2 or 3 hens though and will check in at the forum to see how it is going.

Again sorry to hear this....

Check this out....

Table 1. Heat Stress & Ambient Temperature

55° to 75°F-Thermal neutral zone. The temperature range in which the bird does not need to alter its basic metabolic rate or behavior to maintain its body temperature.

65° to 75°F-Ideal temperature range.

75° to 85°F-A slight reduction in feed consumption can be expected, but if nutrient intake is adequate, production efficiency is good. Egg size may be reduced and shell quality may suffer as temperatures reach the top of this range.

85° to 90°F-Feed consumption falls further. Weight gains are lower. Egg size and shell quality deteriorate. Egg production usually suffers. Cooling procedures should be started before this temperature range is reached.

90° to 95°F-Feed consumption continues to drop. There is some danger of heat prostration among layers, especially the heavier birds and those in full production. At these temperatures, cooling procedures must be carried out.

95° to 100°F-Heat prostration is probable. Emergency measures may be needed. Egg production and feed consumption are severely reduced. Water consumption is very high.

Over 100°F-Emergency measures are needed to cool birds. Survival is the concern at these temperatures.

The above from article By Kenneth E. Anderson, Exte

He left out 100 to 118 degrees F.....
