Hey there! Thank you so much for meeting us. My kids thought you were great & they were so glad "she wasn't some old crazy chicken lady" haha out of the mouths of babes. They loved the clips you brought them - do you make those?

The Seramas are settling in nicely - his crow is HILARIOUS

Hubby about blew tea out his nose when he heard him! They are still picking on the little jap roo - but he stand his ground.

There was some great looking birds at the fair! My little girl fell in love with the white call ducks. And they all thought the guineas were ridiculous.

Glad you had & the family had a great time and made it home safely.

"Tracy - are your Cornish looking a tad on the "ratty" side? Nearly bald underbellies & the like...

I'm guessing that because they are perpetually squatting in unmentionables they all look a tad bit unkempt but after picking up the Cornish for the cleaning I noticed they are quite nasty looking."

Mikey- How did the peeper outing go? Cornish are notorious for laying in their poop and getting bald, nasty sores on their bellies and bottoms. Keep an eye on it, it can actually cause sores and infection if it rubs through, although usually it just looks bad like yours do right now. They like to lay at the feeders and eat/poop/drink and sleep in one spot. I try to move things around enough and even force them to get up and exercise. Deep bedding or clean grass ( I'm moving the tractor daily) really gets important as they start eating and pooping more. The 4-H kids bed really deeply and even give them baths. This summer I did catch mine and hose them down a few times. I was lucky in that they were good about spending the night in clean, grassy areas. I bedded the shady daytime areas in pine straw.
This batch of chicks, I don't see too much of that because the kefir and sprout seems to be making their poo drier but instead, their whole bodies a sticky mess from swimming in their kefir!

thanks Gallo!

Note: two males : zero females

I showered!...

Take them to Grandma's.... On the chicks, are they getting wet on their belly somehow? Or is the bedding wet? We use pine shavings in the brooder so don't know much about rice hulls, but ours stay nice and fluffy unless we get a spill or something.

I believe the bedding is quite dry except underneath the nipples. They get an extra drop for each drop they drink. Maybe that's it?

Or are the outgrowing their ability to produce feathers fast enough to keep up? They grow really really fast, right?
Did that make sense? When I was 16 I had my tonsils and adenoids out and I went from Twiggy to Sophia Loren in 3 months. I grew so fast that my skin couldn't keep up and I'm wondering if something similar is taking place.

Another good probability!

Ummm...got any post tonsil pictures Sophia?

The only damp area is directly beneath the water-er. The hulls in that area were soaked. I'm now leaning towards scooping that area out every day and replacing w/ fresh.

Mikey,
I have a lid from a large coffee can under my water dish. Could you put something like that to keep the bedding dry? And maybe put newspaper or something to absorb. ?
