Arizona Chickens

Hi Mahonri, if you can not spare the 2 pullets at this time I can wait until you have a better hatch ratio. . . not a problem, just let me know what works for you. . .

What if I offered you two EEs now? One is laying now.... and is beautiful... and bluish eggs!

The reason I want them is to have a couple of real Amerucana's. . . so. . . . sorry, but I am willing to wait.

I went back and read it. There are more tips (as I am sure you saw) from other BYC folk later in the thread. It almost sounds do-able...except the killing part. Somewhere someone has a post about using parafin wax to get the feathers off the chicken. In that thread they talk about taking the chickens off their roosts pre-dawn and hanging them upside down. They said the birds were calm the whole time. Then they slit their corotid.

Oh, yuck...sometimes I do think about turning vegetarian.... just sometimes.

ETA - fixed typo

I promised you two wheaten pullets, you'll get two wheaten pullets. I'll e-mail when I know which ones are which.. for certain!

I can always do another hatch in April

Thanks, I really do want purebreds, and I very much appreciate you willingness to let go of them.

Congrats AZcat and Enjaytoo!

I WOULD have had 8 eggs today! 8!

Unfortunately, I have an egg-eater. I suspected it for a while, but now I am certain. Garlic-Jalepeno Mustard Bomb, in progress.

I also took some updated pics of my first Patchlings. I will put them on my page when I get a minute.

i think that Garlic Jalapeno Mustard sounds tasty! I don't know what you're talking about in reference to egg eating chickens, though...

Bored hens will sometimes pick at the eggs and find a tasty inside. Then they know the eggs are edible, and then ruin them! I already keep golf balls in the nesting boxes for the "lazy layers". Someone here suggested filling up a hollow egg with something yucky and leaving it for them to find.

I put updated pictures of the little chicks on my Aloha page. Nothing AWESOME yet.
