Hopefully you are on their good side! You have been serving them fresh made hot meals and keeping the climate control set appropriately, right?

I am celebrating today! I have internet at home! We hooked up with Wild Blue, cable internet that has come to Wittmann.

Alas Ivan is all chcicken now. He doesn't need his mommy anymore [me]. I can't even catch him now! I want my baby back!

Oh well he does have a place with the laying hens as their roo. If he turns mean he will be Ivan the terrible. If he turns vicious he will be for dinner!

Of course he hasn't crowed yet so I still have hopes he is a Ivy but looking very slim.

Congrats! So glad the heart rate is normal. As one who had to visit a cardiologist during my second pregnancy, that's awesome to hear!!

They came over after lunchtime, and it's not yet time for dinner, but yes, it will be offered. This is a new experience for me; I've done all the building on all the other coops except the original coop, which had a number of generals and very few worker bees--it never turned out quite like I (or any of hte other "generals") had envisioned, but has worked well for nearly 12 years. It spent too many of those flat on the ground during irrigation, so I really need to replace it...but not yet.

Congrats AzKat!

Hi All- Its day 2 with my new Chicks. (3 days old). I noticed some dried up feces stuck to the butt of 2 of the 4 chicks. Any suggestions on how to remove>? I tried to gently remove it with my fingernail and also a damp cloth but didnt want to chill them. Any reason this is happening or how to prevent it from continuing? Just want to keep the exit clear! Thanx!

It is important that you clean their little butts. If it obstructs them from poo-ing, it can kill them. I usually just give them a warm bath in the bathroom sink and then blow them dry with a hair dryer. I don't know what causes it....just seems like some chicks get pasty butt and some don't.

Yes, you definitely need to get that off of there. I usually soak it off with warm water and then blow dry.
I had one chick a couple of years ago that kept getting pasty butt and he ended up with the name of "Poopy"
