Arizona Chickens

OK here we go - I get busy for a day or two and there are 10 freak'n pages of posts!

1st - Public apology - Pastrymama - publicly sorry about that video I posted. The title of the song is "Bad Influence" (which you most definitely are!) but I had no idea of the half clothed women prancing around (note to self - watch videos before posting).

1st and a half - Pastry - are the EE's really EE's or are they really americunas (the blue eggers) 'cause if there is a chance of blue I'd like some.

2nd - Papa's peepers peepers are doing well and not so well. Princess (Wellsummer) looks really good. Her eye is cleared up and not weeping any more. The app spitz (Blinkey) is not well at all. I have been draining her eye 2 - 3 times a day (very very yucky) and applying Neosporin. We went to Higley Feed and picked up a small bottle of Vetracyn ($28!) which is a gel and will hopefully get in there better. they have been on Duramiacyn for three days now - seven to go. I put all the little ones on the antibiotic, not the big girls.

3rd - We got 6 eggs yesterday! Wahoo! This is what we have been waiting for! I found five today as of 10:30 this AM. Two more and that'll be a full house!

4th - THIS IS A MESSAGE FROM AZKAT - we will not be processing tonight. The roos are truly feral and need ot be rounded up. We went over there today to get them and the roos are not even in a backyard - they kinda have free roam of the block. My friend is going to feed/trick them into a pen and we should be able to pick them up in a few days.

5TH - We went to Market on the Move today. All good stuff and worth way more than the $10 they asked for it. We got these two boxes (including he Oatmeal on the Go and a box of peanut butter granola bars (which I think on of the kids has already consumed)) and I've already given some away. Very worthwhile except the produce needs to be eaten within a couple of days - should be great for tomato sauce!

Thanks to all for your well wishes and welcome to all the noobs!

what a smokin' deal for $10. I am starting to wish we lived back in the valley of the sun, but with mikey, pastry and laree I am sure I would be getting in more trouble than help. I would have 200 chickens 2 months after we moved back!

My more industrious hens will carry the eggs under their wings. I've tossed broodies (less then gently) out of a nest, only to have her sit where she lands, because he had an egg squirreled away.

She got up, I removed the broken egg and took the slime off the others. One of the others was cracked, but not broken. I left it there, should I remove that one, too. She had 4 yesterday, this broken one made 5. So she's down to 4 again, and one's cracked.

how bad is cracked. You can put fingernail polish or wax over the crack. You do that so bacteria cant get into the egg, I have had a few that have had cracks and put something over it and none have hatched. I had one that almost did, but so far none ever made it to hatch.

mark them!!!!!!!! remove all others including the cracked ones. tick off that hen and just lift her up to see what's under there. it won't hurt that bad. save the rest for me to either stick under my hen at the end of the week or worst case scenario, put in my bator on saturday.

mikey, they are EE's that lay green eggs. they are not your average looking EEs, they are very pretty EEs, i have never seen ones that look quite like this. i would say this must be her own strain of them as i have had quite a few hatchery ones and never seen ones that look like these. but these do lay green, NOT BLUE. i will keep a few for myself and rotate out my hatchery EEs.
